WE NEVER EVER LIKE TO ASK FOR SUPPORT, & quite honestly, it’s incredibly hard for us! However we had an EMERGENCY RESCUE & DUCHESS NEEDS YOUR HELP!
On August 25, we were contacted by a veterinarian at VEG Emergency Hospital regarding Duchess, a French Bulldog in life-threatening dystocia (difficult labor) and a breach puppy requiring immediate surgical intervention.
Duchess had already delivered two puppies, one around 11 PM and another around 3:20 AM (one deceased) and continued having contractions without being able to deliver the remaining puppies. X-rays showed 4 puppies still remained, with the next puppy lodged in the pelvic canal in a breech position, unable to be birthed naturally.
VEG attempted medical management with calcium and oxytocin to stimulate contractions.
Her owner had no funds for emergency surgery and attempted asking friends, family, applying for CareCredit, Scratchpay, and other financing, but was unable to secure enough funding to pay for the $5,800.00 emergency medical bill that were presented for authorization.
Euthanasia was discussed and considered for mama, her single baby and her unborn babies.
Multiple low-cost veterinary hospitals, local animal shelters and other rescue organizations were contacted, but all said NO and refused to take Duchess’ case on. Save A Bow Wow Rescue was contacted by the treating veterinarian at VEG and asked us to help; we immediately agreed to take Duchess, sight unseen, expecting her babies would not survive and our focus was saving Mama Duchess.
Her prior owner transported her from VEG to Fullerton around 4:30pm, surrendered her to our rescue, signed paperwork and although our vet closes at 5pm, Dr. Cruz agreed to selflessly stay late to try and save Duchess and her babies.
Duchess has welcomed 4 surviving babies into the world.
Duchess enormous medical bill is now our rescue's responsibility for saying YES to saving her when everyone else said NO! We stepped in because she had nowhere else to go and was suffering. We are asking our supporters to please help us give Duchess the emergency medical care she needs and help us through whatever comes next. Her AMAZING foster mom is helping ensure nursing rotation and taking weight checks daily.
