🚨 Don't be scared of the term 'byproducts' in your pet's food! 🐾

Did you know that many of these ingredients are actually nutritious and safe for your furry friends?

However, just like how some people love to find treasure in their trash cans, not all byproducts are allowed in the human food supply chain 🗑️

Unless you are a vegan or vegetarian, the demonized byproducts you hear about come through the same testing your food goes through. There’s abundant pet food marketing suggesting that byproducts are dangerous or unsafe when the reality is - we should feel neutral about them. They’re simply ingredients.

Don't judge your pet's food by its byproducts - they may be hidden gems in disguise! 🐶🐱

🐶🍲 Homemade diets for dogs and cats are becoming more popular these days, and for good reason!😽❤️
👉 You control what ingredients go into the food and can ensure that they are fresh and good quality.🌱
👉 Homemade diets don’t have to be heated to the same temperatures as commercially prepared food and small batches ensure the food isn’t sitting and losing nutrients before serving. Fresher homemade diets are therefore easier to digest. It’s common for pets transitioned to homemade to have a reduction in the size and frequency of bowel movements because more of the food is turned into useable energy versus waste (which I consider a pro but didn’t want to make it a slide lol).
👉 And let's not forget the positive environmental impact of homemade diets! By using locally sourced ingredients and reducing packaging waste, you're doing your part to help protect the planet.🌍
👉 However, it's important to make sure that the homemade diet you're feeding your dog is balanced and complete. According to a study by Freeman et al., only 9 out of 200 (less than 5%) homemade dog food recipes were nutritionally balanced.🙀🙀🙀The health consequences of this can range from minor deficiencies to major health complications. The biggest concern is we have no early special screening to make sure deficiencies aren’t developing.
