This is just a friendly PSA.
There are soooo many cats and dogs getting lost with no way to identify who they belong to. Collars with information tags are just an okay solution if they don't come off. Cat collars are made to break away if the animal gets caught up in a branch. Dog collars are too easy to remove if someone steals the dog.
Microchipping is a more permanent solution. It's minimally invasive. They can be found by any microchip reader. The cost can range from $50-$100 depending on who you go to. Sometimes the registration fee is included, but usually it's a separate one-time life-time fee through the microchipping company. And this is not just for cats and dogs. It can be used for ferrets, rabbits, chinchillas, birds, etc. My green-cheek conure is chipped. It costed $67 and some change plus $40 for the lifetime registration.
If cost is an issue, there are discount clinics available in some areas. Call the local rescues/shelters to find out if there are any in your area. I use Care Credit. It's a payment option that allows an interest-free payoff for 6 months when you qualify.
Pic of microchipped Emoji for tax.
