🐾 Meet Chester 🐾

This sweet 4-year-old boy was on the euthanasia list… and yesterday, he came in on our transport to safety. I still can’t believe a dog this amazing was so close to not getting his chance.

Chester is super friendly, playful, and eager to please — the kind of dog that steals your heart the moment you meet him.

We literally saved his life, and it wouldn’t have been possible without everyone’s support and the support of his amazing foster family.

Here’s to new beginnings, second chances, and the power of rescue. Welcome to The Grateful Dog Rescue, Chester!

Tiny. Tough. Totally irresistible. 🩷

Meet Rochene — a 15-pound, 5-month-old parvo survivor who has already beaten the odds. She’s got a couple missing toenails/old injury on her back foot, but you’d never know it… this girl runs, plays, and splashes like nothing ever happened.

She’s the dream package: dog-friendly, cat-friendly, kid-friendly, even chicken-friendly! Rochene loves the kiddie pool now and is sure to grow into the ultimate New England lake (and snow!) adventure buddy.

After everything she’s been through, she deserves the world — and a family to love her forever. Could it be yours?

When you take the longest journey ever from Alabama to Maine, naps will be had!

Maddie is a 1 year old petite black lab mix weighing in at only 30 pounds. She’s excellent with other dogs, and would make a great family dog. She doesn’t mind car rides, and could keep up with a good hike if you choose. She is also perfectly happy to relax, as long as she’s with her people!

Our guess is she is going to love lake life! 💦

Can you help with Funny Neck Jim’s vet bills today?

Sometimes, rescue work is about the small, steady acts of kindness that save lives. As passionate advocates for animals in need, we see firsthand how consistent support can truly make a difference.

Jimmy, lovingly known as Funny Neck Jim or “Bent Neck Lady”, if you will 🤣 came to us recently from Alabama with a suspected congenital deformity and is getting an x-ray today to confirm as well as another exam to check his ear canals for anything suspicious. Jimmy is a happy go lucky little dude and doesn’t let life slow him down. Your monthly contribution can go toward dogs like little Jimmy who while not perfect physically, is perfect in his own little way 💜

We also have our long term resident girl Kelsie at the vet today having one final mass removal so she can live her best life in a forever home, and while she’s there, we are updating all of her vaccines and tests! Kelsie’s adoption fee has been fully sponsored, and she’s been in rescue with us for over 3 years now, so any donations toward her surgery today are always appreciated and help us continue our life saving mission.

Fosters and adopters—current and future—this is a great read! It’s SO important to remember realistic and fair expectations with any new dog, and that it’s our job to shape these behaviors and resiliency we so wish to see from our beloved rescue babies.

Often times, these things are expected far too soon. Let’s give the dogs a little more credit, work together with them in the ways they need guidance, and in the end establish that wonderful relationship together with our dogs we dream of from day one. While a new life seems exciting, remember that it’s a learning curve for them, too.

A huge THANK YOU to our friends at Pet Supplies Plus - Portland, ME for hosting such an amazing event today! We had an incredible time meeting so many wonderful customers who showed so much love to the dogs.

Our dogs had an absolute blast — from meeting new people, getting belly rubs, to event enjoying some well-deserved playtime… and yes, even an ice cream treat just for them!

Events like today help our dogs find their forever homes and remind us just how powerful community can be. Thank you again to Pet Supplies Plus - Portland, ME and all who came out.
