Spay and neuter.. so babies like her don't sufferโค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

This little girl was found on a dark, rainy night in the middle of the road by a car passing by. She was only about 2 weeks old and was half the size she should've been by that age. She had a deep infected neck wound, an infected paw injury, she was severely anemic and had pale gums, and she wouldn't eat or cry. She was weak..

By the time she was evaluated it was too late. She was septic and the infections had spread deep. She had to be let go to end her suffering.

Things like this happen every day in the rescue world. Spay and neuter your pets! TNR your local ferals to prevent babies like this from suffering๐Ÿ’—

Remmie should have never suffered the way he did.
But this is what happens when an animal is abandoned and left to survive alone.

8 years ago, Remmie was dumped outside and attacked repeatedly by other stray cats. One of those attacks ruptured his eye โ€” and instead of getting help, he lived like that for an entire year. His eye swelled to the size of a golf ball, filled with infection so severe you could smell it before you even touched him. The neighbors knew something was wrong. They saw him suffering.
And they walked past him anyway.

By the time someone finally made a call one late evening in 2018, Remmie was barely holding on.

We stepped in immediately. He was rushed straight to the vet, where he started antibiotics, pain meds, flea and mite treatment, neutering, and had his ruptured, infected eye removed. He endured all of this because people who cared came together and refused to let him die in pain and alone. A fundraiser was started and support poured in within hours โ€” strangers saved his life.

Thatโ€™s what rescue really is.
Itโ€™s stepping in when no one else will.
Itโ€™s fighting for the animals who have already been failed by humans.
Itโ€™s seeing suffering that most people ignore โ€” and doing something about it.

And this is exactly what Behind the Kennel Door is about.
Remmie is the reality we are fighting to expose.
Not the cute adoption photos โ€” the stories that come before them. The ones no one talks about. The ones that show how badly animals need us.

After everything he survived, Remmie was adopted into a loving home where he lived four more beautiful years. He passed away knowing safety, comfort, and what real love felt like โ€” something he was denied for most of his life.

Remmie could have died scared, infected, and alone behind someoneโ€™s house.
Instead, he was seen. He was saved. He mattered.

This is why this page exists.
Because there are so many Remmies still out there โ€” and the world needs to see them.

I created Behind the Kennel Door because most people never see what really happens in animal rescue. We see the happy endings, the adoption photos, and the success stories โ€” but not the reality that comes first.

Behind every saved animal are dozens who are neglected, abandoned, turned away, or waiting in kennels that are already beyond capacity. Shelters and rescues are drowning in medical bills, supply shortages, and impossible decisions. And somewhere in the middle of it allโ€ฆ animals suffer silently, unseen.

My mission with this page is simple:
To expose the reality that shelters and rescues face daily, to shine light on the forgotten animals, and to raise awareness of the financial and capacity crisis happening behind closed doors.

I hope to strengthen my connections with local shelters and rescue groups so I can work with them to share real stories, real numbers, and real faces โ€” the ones that donโ€™t make it to the adoption posts. I'll also be helping shelters and rescue groups fundraise on this page for animals who need it most.

Just because we don't see what happens after you surrender that dog or cat, or animal control picks it up, doesn't mean it isn't happening. If you care about animals, or if youโ€™ve ever wondered what rescue actually looks like, I hope youโ€™ll follow Behind the Kennel Door and help me spread the truth. Awareness is the first step toward change.

This is whatโ€™s behind the kennel door.
And itโ€™s time more people saw it.
