Celebrating 30 Years of Índio Gigante 🐓🇧🇷
2025 marked 30 years of Índio Gigante being refined, and carried forward as a distinct and purposeful breed, an important milestone worth honoring.
From its early development in Brazil to its growing presence around the world, Índio Gigante stands as a testament to vision, patience, and decades of selective breeding focused on height, structure, rusticity, and presence. What began as regional birds, evolved through intention and dedication into what is now known globally as Índio Gigante.
At the heart of this history is Antônio Carlos de Andrade, widely recognized as the original creator and foundational figure behind Índio Gigante. His work in organizing, selecting, and formalizing the breed helped establish the standard and identity that breeders continue to respect and build upon today. Having had the opportunity to talk with Antônio and review his earlier SOP's has been such a great experience that has really elevated our appreciation for everything he has done.
As breeders and enthusiasts, we are not merely raising chickens, we are stewarding a legacy. Celebrating 30 years of Índio Gigante means honoring its origins, respecting those who shaped it, and committing ourselves to preserving its identity with accuracy and integrity for future generations.
The American Índio Gigante Breeders Association (AIGBA) is proud to stand in recognition of this milestone and to honor the past, present, and future of this remarkable breed.
Here’s to 30 years of Índio Gigante, and to the legacy that continues to grow taller with every generation.
