Canine Nation NFP is a not-for-profit, volunteer group dedicated to things that dogs like, such as: Currently our adoption fee is FREE.

Canine Nation NFP is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization involved in animal rescue, welfare and advocacy. Currently our efforts are focused on dog rescue in Philadelphia, PA and surrounding areas where dogs are at risk of euthanasia at overcrowded shelters. If you are interested in saving a dog, please fill out our foster/adopt application and email it to caninenation@gmail.com. Please le

t us know which dog you are interested in fostering or adoption. There is a veterinary charge of $145 which covers spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip and vet check upon leaving the shelter where the dog is located. Fostering is FREE and can be considered a trial run before adopting (so we do not provide food; that's part of having a dog!). Except in unusual cases, we provide veterinary care during the foster period and can help with other needs like pet-sitting, transportation, etc. All fosters have first dibs on adopting their dog! Emergency & short term fosters are also much needed & appreciated. If you have no intention of adopting but would like to be one of our temporary fosters, please let us know. Temporary fosters usually take care of a dog for a week or less, and even 1-night fosters often make the difference between life & death. So drop us a message on facebook or email, and let's save a dog together!

Help needed!! Canine Nation has not been actively pulling dogs for quite sometime now but one of our very long term fosters needs all of our help to spread their foster, Rocky's, story!! They are dealing with serious health issues with their beloved resident pup and need Rocky to find a loving foster or home ASAP!! Please share for him!

Rocky is an incredibly sweet boy, who is looking for a home!! He is young, right around two years old and obviously- he's gorgeous!! His foster mom has had him since November and has taken the BEST care of this big guy!! Rocky LOVES to be close to his people and as his photos show, he gets along well with other dogs his size too! As with any new pup, it would be best to have slow and steady meets, so all parties get used to each other and have a chance to warm up!

Rocky is all smiles much of the time! He is a goof and loves to play- play with people, play with dogs and play with his toys too!! He's got an awesomely contagious HAPPY personality! He would do well with someone who can show him the ropes of the home, and reinforce the rules occasionally. Rocky is housebroken and enjoys his time outside too.

Because of his strength and playful nature, he would be best in a home without kiddos. He is more than happy to give his adult friends all his heart and love!!

November is VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION MONTH! To start off, check out this guy on the right, Eugene Echevarria. You may not know him personally, but if you rescued a MD or DC dog through Canine Nation in the last 5 years, chances are Gene was the guy who busted your dog out of lockup on D-day.

I first met Gene with minutes to go before a pittie "Lucy" was about to get the needle because of a pit ban. One jailbreak later, Lucy became a permanent family member at Gene's place, and after that, together we went on to rescue scores more dogs across 4 states.

One of the first, if not the first volunteer to join CN, Gene is a major driving force behind all those impossible rescues, with his never-say-die attitude. Remember "Max" the time stamped mastiff at ACCT Philly? That poor dog would've been toast if Gene hadn't singlehandedly transported him from Philly to a sanctuary on the border of West Virginia. And he did this with only 1 working arm, and a dog that was bigger than both of us put together. Now that's dedication.

In his spare time, Gene & his crew will stop your house from burning down to the ground. Good friend to have on speed dial.

Thanks for 5 years of CN service, Gene! I'd send you a plaque but my dog chewed it up 😐

Help! Nala needs a new foster or adoptive placement! Nala has been in foster for about a year now. She has always gotten along with her doggy friends inside the home but recently one of their plays got too rough and a fight broke out.

Nala is about 2-4 years old and is sweet as pie with humans!! She can be a little nervous or shy when meeting new people, but she warms up quickly and before you know it, she's melting into you! She even likes to sleep in bed with you! Nala has done great with the older teens in her home! She is crate trained, house broken and walks well on a leash! She is up to date on all her shots and vet care too!

Please share for sweet Nala! She will make someone without other dogs and cats, the PERFECT companion!!

Rescues, please take note of Maple & Milk! Both of these beauties are rescue-only and TIMESTAMPED for tonight 8/23! Maple was an owner surrender who is a shy, sweet girl who is scared and shaking in the shelter! Milk is a beauty found as a stray who is so polite and adorable, but also feeling scared in the shelter! They both need to find a way out safely by 8PM!!!

We got a message pleading for help for a beloved pittie, who desperately and quickly needs rehoming. While we cannot take Tyco in at this time, we're hoping everyone will share for him, in hopes that this will help him along his way to a new home. .

"I am sad to say that I need to rehome my pitbull of 7 yrs. I am moving and cannot take him with me. The year we got our pitbull Tyco 2010, I was diagnosed with my 2nd cancer. So to no fault of his own, he has not had alot of attention and training put into him because I have spent the last 7 years fighting for my life."

Tyco is food driven and will learn anything for a hotdog. He only knows sit,take it and down (lay) as of now. He used to know crawl, but we haven't done it in a long time. He loves to jump up on people, so I keep a pincher collar on him. He loves car/truck rides in the back. I take him to pet stores, just keep his leash short, right next to me. I avoid people with dogs when they come down my aisle or get real close, as he can be reactive to other dogs, but NEVER to people. He has a crate, is potty trained. I crate him when I leave because he is known to get into stuff. I love him and I wish so many places did not allow BSL. I think it's unfair. Any way, thanks for your time and if you can't help can you maybe tell me a rescue that can.

R.I.P. Gotti

Some of you might remember the strange case of "Doc & Spanky", the inseparable father-son pair of Argentinian Dogos who ended up dumped and time stamped at ACCT in Philly. The problem: how do you find a home for a combined 180 lbs of dog without splitting them up?

Things seemed hopeless, downright impossible, but then I remembered something my good friends Nicole & Reiner at Sacred Souls Sanctuary Inc once told me. They said if I ever come across an "impossible" rescue, I should just pack up the truck and bring them a new bundle of joy. (Many bundles later, I'm sure they would come to regret that offer.) But in this case, things couldn't have turned out more perfect.

The two became "Capone & Gotti" immune from prosecution, permanent guests of the Sanctuary. And I'm sure they were absolute ANGELS, right guys? Aside from the demolished furniture and a few ransacked kitchen appliances.

Today Gotti, the father, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. The vet said it was a Hemangiosarcoma cancer tumor on his heart that ruptured (meanging it was very quick and he didn't suffer). It still hasn't sunk in, and I doubt it ever will. I choose to remember the important part: that the boys didn't die in a cold room at animal control. Instead, they made it to the only place on Earth where they could get the happy, free lives they deserved, with all the friends and horses and ducks they could ever want as family. And when Gotti died, he was in the arms of the people who loved him the most. Thanks, Nicole, Reiner, Capone and GOTTI, for inspiring us all.

A huge thank you to everyone who was involved in Liona's rescue!! From her very loving long term foster, Madeline, to the wonderful ladies at Paw House Retreat, who cared for her for months, and finally to her awesome adopter Nina!!! Liona found her forever home and we are so happy for her- she's got a yard to romp in and plenty of snuggles in bed!!! 💜 thank you so much to the special team that helped her get to her new very special home!! Best of luck Liona and have a wonderful life!!!❤🐾

PUPDATE- if everyone could please continue to share for Brownie it's much needed!! Brownie's "adopter" completed paperwork to adopt, provided a vet reference, a personal reference and their landlord was called. Thursday night he had bought all of her supplies- including a bed and a large crate for brownie and now. . . He is no where to be reached. Brownie was supposed to be going to her forever home with him Friday night and now she has nothing. Her very awesome, very temporary foster mom, is extremely kind and agreed to hold on to her for a few days, but doesn't have the right set up for Brownie and cannot keep her!!

Brownie has made so much progress in the last few months, we would love her to be placed finally in a loving home with no other animals! It's so unfair she was dumped like this. Please share for Brownie- she is sweet and adores people and has been waiting for months for an opportunity of a home for her very own! 💔

A HUGE thank you to Tonya for transporting Brownie, the last lovely pup in boarding, to her amazing temporary foster Lindsay!!! Thank you so much ladies!! You both came through for Brownie in such a huge way today!! Tomorrow she meets her forever dad!! 💜

CN has been inactive for a while now as it was absolutely pummeled with vet bills. If you could please consider donating and it sharing, it would be wonderful!! There is ONE individual who cared very much for Nibbles and placed the bills in her name. She was able to get them transferred to a different credit card as of APRIL, but still needs our help!! Huge, huge news!!! We are just ecstatic to announce that another one of our long timers has been adopted to a wonderful family!!! SHARKY has been with us since the fall!! He's waited months for just the right fit and we think he's finally found it!!! His new mama, Aisha, and family drove all the way from Delaware to New Jersey to pick up Sharky at Paw House Retreat!!! PHR staff was soo happy to see their little buddy off!! They have been caring for Sharky since early December and helped him through his anxieties! He came to them a nervous pup and left much happier and with confidence and knowing all his basic commands!! Thank you Paw House! Sharky seemed to not believe it was true as he is the lucky new addition to a family of 8!!! Sharky has 6 human brothers now, ranging in age from 1-14 years old!! For Sharky, a dog who just loves attention, especially from children, this is an absolute dream come true!! Thank you, thank you- to all who shared his story and helped Sharky along the way!! He would not have made it without you!! GO SHARKY!! Have the best life little dude!!!💜🐾

We've been waiting for this day for a very long time!!! Drum roll please . . .🥁🥁🥁

We're very happy to announce that MAMAS has been ADOPTED!!! 💜❤💜. MAMAS was pulled back in the fall from ACCT PHILLY after she was timestamped!! She couldn't find quite the right foster with us due to the fact that other dogs and cats are not always her favorite 😬 So she was off to boarding at Paw House Retreat where she was given the most excellent care until she was ready to find her forever home!! That time finally came today!! After two months of boarding - Here she is in the first photo, her beautiful smile beaming ear to ear while she's in her new adopter's lap!! Let's hear it for MAMAS!! We hope you have the most wonderful life!! 💗🐾

Happy to report that we've had two great adoptions- this weekend and last!! First up- MIA!!! Congrats to Mia and her awesome foster mom- Risa, who was her advocate from day 1!! Risa was a phenomenal foster and Mia couldn't have been more lucky to have first, escaped her timestamp at ACCT PHILLY and second, to have landed herself the most awesome and giving foster mama in the world!! Mia is settling in with her new adoptive family- the Missimers! Thank you Nicole and family for giving Mia such a warm and loving welcome!! We are so thrilled that Mia had someone in her corner from start to finish!! Thank you everyone who helped with Mia- Including the fantastic staff at Paw House Retreat, who also helped care for Mia in the most loving of ways!❤💗

Check out stud muffin Little Tony!! Tony is not only just a 55 lb lover, but he is also fully house & crate trained!! Tony's current foster cannot keep Tony as their dog is having issues with this little cutie. As far as Tony's concerned though- he could get along with most anybody!! Tony is currently cared for in a home with a tiny 13 lb rescued pup and they get along famously! Please share for Tony as he deserves an incredibly awesome home! Thank you!

Please SHARE FOR GORGI!! He's been in foster care for close to four months and he is looking for a loving adopter!!

Gorgonzola is very playful and sweet. He loves attention and chin and head rubs. Gorgi does extremely well in a crate. He is friendly with other dogs. Gorgi LOVES food especially cheese. When outside, he comes immediately when called. He is an excellent watch dog. His silly side includes playing with tomatoes out of the garden. He has the goofiest run and the cutest head tilt. When you talk to him he seems like he's really trying to understand what you are saying!!

Rocky is right around one or two years old!! He's a young dude and is just getting started with his training! Rockster is a love! He likes to sit with you, cuddle with you and just in general be on top of you!! Rocks is one the sweetest guys out there! He enjoys being by your side, but hasn't quite learned to follow signals/directions yet, so he ll need someone caring and experienced to show him the ropes!! For now, he should go to a household with no other dogs so he can learn straight from you !! Check out the handsome grin that's saying TAKE ME HOME!! When she didn't get along with the foster's other pup, I agreed to be a very short term foster for Mamas. Mama is an absolutely wonderful WONDERFUL dog- if I had not had other pets to worry about, I surely would have kept her. Mamas is so special and one of a kind.
