Whether you are currently a breeder, or if you are just considering getting involved in this exciting industry, there are many reasons to join. PHBA is devoted to those involved in Pennsylvania's Thoroughbred breeding industry. A not-for-profit organization founded in 1948, we provide a number of services to members, including informational assistance, educational opportunities, and a variety of s
ocial events. The goal of the organization is to advocate on behalf of Pennsylvania's breeding industry. We are mandated by state statute as administrator of the Pennsylvania Breeding Fund program, and as official registrar of the Pennsylvania-Bred roster of eligible program participants. Working with industry leaders over the years, PHBA has achieved several goals that have brought reforms and benefits to breeders, owners, racetracks, and the public. We will continue to provide representation and advocacy in the state Capitol and at industry gatherings. PHBA is vital to everyone involved in breeding throughout Pennsylvania. Your support and participation can help us reach our full potential.

The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation's Pastures of Point Lookout is this year's Award of Merit recipient. Thank you to Kim Weir for making the acceptance speech on behalf of Pastures of Point! Pastures of Point Lookout is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in early 2020, and was created to provide for the lifelong care of 10 horses from the TRF for the remainder of their days. PPL was created by the world-renowned American artist, Mr. Jamie Wyeth, in loving memory of his late wife, Phyllis Mills Wyeth. Ten retired racehorses traveled from the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation Second Chances herd, previously working with inmates at the Wallkill Correctional Facility, and were moved to their new home at Pastures of Point Lookout in Chadds Ford, PA in July 2020. The retirees all live together, as they did for so many years at Wallkill, and they have become the “inaugural herd” of Pastures of Point Lookout. Consistent with the TRF’s intake policies, all of these horses are registered Thoroughbreds and all have raced at least once. Six of the horses retired to the TRF when they were no longer able to continue their racing career and were unable to pursue second athletic careers, and four of the horses* spent a number of years in adoptive homes, returned to the TRF when they had aged out of their second careers.
