CHEWS I DO RECOMMEND:
**with the exception of lam ears we always try to buy proteins sourced in the US (not just packaged, in the US) for safety & health reasons
LAMB EARS:
easily digestible & lower fat than pig ears, so little risk of “rich food soft poos” or greasy contact mess
PORKY SLICES & PIG EARS:
easily digestible, but the richness may cause soft poops if given a large portion or given frequently
the slices offer smaller portion sizes
BULLY STICKS:
easily digestible, but a little rich
Sticks for larger or adult dogs, smaller sticks or pieces for appropriate puppy or small dog portions
suggest the “low odor” option
CHICKEN FEET:
full of healthy collagen
dehydrating at low temps make them safe (unlike bones from a roasted chicken carcass)
I get them raw & dehydrate our own!
SHANK BONES:
tibia bones have more cartilage attached than femurs & don’t have the hip, ball joint attached
-while lower risk of tooth fractures than a femur bone, these are still timed or supervised chews in our house
When the end of the bone starts going in the back of the mouth with molars grinding (vs a more shearing type of gnawing), these bones go in the garbage
KNEE CAPS:
lots of cartilage (yummy & nutritious), smaller circumference & not as rock hard as femur, hip ball joints make them safer
-like shank bones, these are timed or supervised chews in our house
CANOE CUT MARROW BONES:
not coin cut or whole shank cut
freeze first for longer dog enjoyment & less greasy, contact mess
— in our house, these are timed or supervised chews
When the marrow is gone, the bones go in the garbage to prevent tooth fractures
ELK ANTLERS SELECTED FOR SMOOTHNESS & CANOE CUT:
only purchase in person to make sure you can select ones without a lot of ridges or grooving to prevent tooth fractures
