Today I want to tell you about a very special girl named Darcy. Darcy was one of the very first pets to come to my studio when we opened in the fall of 2024. Her parents saw the value and frankly the FUN in having professional portraits of their dog and their trust in my studio so early on meant a lot to me.
This past spring, Darcy began having seizures. They were told it was most likely a brain tumor. Tori and Sam gave Darcy the best weeks of her life over the past few months. Pup cups and car rides with her nose out the sun roof. Last month they asked me to come over and photograph her in her own space, doing ordinary things, so they could remember her just like this: playing with her favorite toy in their backyard, laying in her spot on the couch, sitting on her red chair by the front window. Luckily we caught her on a good day and we were able to do it all.
Losing a pet is one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced. Having great photos of my dog to look back on brought me comfort as a grieved. It is such an honor to be able to provide this type of service to families experiencing pet loss. I think it is one of the most important things that I get to do. Rest in heaven, sweet Darcy. ❤️
