🐶 Littermate Syndrome: Why Raising Two Puppies Together Can Be Tricky! 🐾
Did you know that raising two puppies together can sometimes create behavioral challenges? 👀
Littermate syndrome is a term used to describe difficulties that can develop when two puppies of the same age become overly dependent on each other. This can lead to separation anxiety, fearfulness, poor social skills, difficulty focusing on their owner, or even reactivity toward other dogs.
The good news? ❤️ With the right training and structure, you can help BOTH dogs become confident, well-rounded individuals!
🐕 Here’s what you should be doing:
✅ Train separately every day — Each dog needs to learn to listen to YOU, not just follow their sibling.
✅ Build confidence apart — Take individual walks, explore new environments, and practice being alone.
✅ Practice obedience together — Teach them to work as a team while still responding independently to your commands.
✅ Socialize individually — Give each dog opportunities to experience the world without relying on the other.
✅ Create individual routines — Separate crate time, feeding, training sessions, and one-on-one bonding.
✅ Practice pack activities — Walk together and work on calm manners as a group, while maintaining individual expectations.
🐾 The goal isn't to separate your dogs forever. It's to teach them that they can confidently exist WITH and WITHOUT each other.
Remember: Just because two dogs love each other doesn't mean they should do everything together!
