It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Bella on a field trip!

After spending months at our shelter working on her best manners, Bella got to enjoy a field trip into town, and she absolutely nailed it. From hopping right into the car like a pro, to walking calmly around downtown Haverhill and greeting strangers with happy tail wags, Bella showed us what a loving, social dog she can be even in a new environment.

She joined us for a dog-friendly dinner, practiced her “place” like a champ, and even took a sunset stroll by the water. Bella showed us that she is more than ready to thrive in the world!

She’s athletic, affectionate, and so eager to connect. She just needs a patient adopter who will give her the decompression time she deserves. Could it be you?

Come meet Bella at our Nevins Farm Adoption Center, open Tuesday–Sunday, 12–4:30pm, no appointment needed!

This is Bea (pronounced Bey-yuh)! Bea came to see our Cardiology team at Angell so we could evaluate a heart murmur her veterinarian heard, and make sure it’s safe for her to go under anesthesia to get a dental.

From the moment she arrived, our goal was to make her visit as comfortable as possible.
While her echocardiogram was underway, Bea happily licked up some Churu, a tasty distraction that turned a potentially stressful procedure into something pleasant for her. That’s the goal of our Fear Free approach: finding ways to lower a patient’s fear, anxiety, and stress so we can provide the best possible care.

Many of our veterinary technicians are Fear Free certified, and even those without the certification use the same thoughtful techniques. We use practices that range from gentle handling and head rubs, to using calming pheromones like Feliway, to giving pets time to explore the exam room. We even recommend pre-visit medications when needed, all to help our patients feel safe and minimize stress while they’re here.

Our approach to veterinary care is to always strive for excellence both in the medicine and also in the patient experience. We are happy to share that Bea thoroughly enjoyed her Churu-cardiogram and that she’s cleared to get the dental!

Muriel was born to rule the roost! She has even been promoted to Assistant VP of the MSPCA’s Animal Protection Division alongside her office mate, Mike Keiley. Some might call Muriel “too much” or “extra”, others might use euphemisms like spicy and spirited. But we are going to be really honest; Muriel absolutely will scratch and bite you, albeit with controlled enthusiasm. She will also endearingly use your shoulders as a jungle gym, prance excitedly to the door to greet you, and wind her way around your ankles begging to be picked up and snuggled.  This petite lady absolutely loves being the center of attention and really enjoys the company of people, just on her own terms. Muriel is not a cat for everyone and that’s what makes her so special. She needs some cat savvy folks who can read her body language, provide lots of enrichment and play, and don’t mind keeping a few extra band aids on hand. Kids are a no, the possibility of some safe outdoor access or a catio are a big yes. Other animals are a question mark but our staff could walk you through how to manage introductions. Muriel is waiting for her perfect person at our Boston adoption center. She is hanging out behind the scenes so ask for her by name if you like living on the edge.

Zeus and Lucy are a 2 year old brother and sister pair available for adoption at our Boston Adoption Center. They are kind of unicorns because they have known positive histories with other dogs, cats, and children!

We would love to be able to adopt these two out together, but these days it can be challenging enough to place a single large dog let alone two. Please share this post and keep sharing it until it reaches someone who falls in love with both of them so they can stay together!

MSPCA-Boston is located at 350 S Huntington Ave in Jamaica Plain. We are open 12-3 every day except Monday, no appt needed!

We have a really wide variety of small mammals, birds and reptiles up for adoption in Boston right now! These aren’t always pets you might associate with an animal shelter, but this is your opportunity to bring home a special little exotic friend without supporting a pet store. We’ve got a super sweet little hedgehog, baby chinchillas, ferrets, fancy rats, a canary, a bearded dragon, leopard gecko and lots of guinea pigs, rabbits and parakeets! Stop by during open hours! Tuesday-Sunday, 12-3 at 350 South Huntington Ave!

UPDATE: Sage, the cat who our Law Enforcement team brought into our care after receiving an anonymous tip about alleged abuse, has been adopted! It’s nothing but window seats, comfy blankets, and gentle scritches from here on out for this sweet boy.

Sage’s former owner was found dangerous in a hearing last week and held without bail for 120 days. The MSPCA-Angell advocated to add animal crimes to the list of offenses in the PAWS II Act that require a hearing to determine whether someone is dangerous, a change that recognizes that animal cruelty should be a factor in determining the risks an individual poses to the community.
