Today doctor Emily did a neuter and gastropexy on a sweet boy named Meeko at Intracoastal West Veterinary Hospital!
A Gastropexy is when you tack the stomach to the body wall. This prevents stomachs in large breed dogs from rotating causing a mechanical stomach obstruction known as GDV (gastric dilatation volvulus). GDV’s can be life threatening if left untreated or not caught in time in a matter of hours.
He did very well in surgery and will need a few re checks to monitor his Incision site and make sure he has no vomiting or regurgitation post surgery.

This week another special pet was seen, and not just one, but TWO- RCVRS very own Sandy cheeks and Dewey!

They came in for their annual vaccines and blood work. Vaccines were done with Heal Mobile Veterinary House Calls Saturday, followed by bloodwork done by A Cat Clinic, Inc. Monday!

Everything came back perfect!

Checking annual labs is crucial to monitoring the functionality of our beloved pet’s organ system. Urine, thyroid, and kidney are especially important for our kitties!

Dewey was so wonderful and cooperative. Sandy cheeks on the other hand…well… she needed some help from the good ‘ole opioids to calm down enough to get her blood drawn 🤣 and yes I mean I knocked her butt out with injectable sedation.

Today’s pet of the day was a special girl- my own Penny the Pothound!
Penny got a routine dental cleaning done at Greenbriar Animal Hospital.
She had excellent at home care which included Virbac Hextra dental chews daily since around 1 year of age, so her teeth were exceptional well kept for a 6 year old dog! She did not need any extractions, simply a good cleaning. Her X-rays were perfect.
At home dental care is so important, and penny is the prime example of how preventative care works! It seems trivial, but can be the make or break for alot of poor eating habits and oral pain for your pup.

Not everyday do I get to see chickens!
Dr. Emily got to see Rosebud, the adorable chicken. She presented for not acting right and diarrhea. We took an xray and she has some crop and GI issues going on.
Wishing rosebud a good recovery!

Say hello to Pearl!
Pearl is a 5 year old New Zealand White Lagamorph, aka a BIG CUTE BUNNY!!
She presented today at Betz Veterinary Services for Dr. Emily to evaluate her for a possible ear infection and pruritis.
She went home happy with her medications and recheck appointment!

This toe mass was so big it deserved a name!
Marco Polo the frenchie came in today at Intracoastal West Veterinary Hospital to see doctor Emily for a neuter and mass removal.
Check out the before and after! His foot was successfully bandaged and he recovered well. He’s in for a few weeks of bandage changes and rechecks.
