PUPDATE: Zeus has found his furever home ❤.

Zeus came out of the shelter totally closed off, nervous and afraid to let himself feel joy. In the short 6 nights he stayed with me, he showed new layers of his sweet and gentle personality every morning. Thanks to the help of everyone who liked, shared and spread the word about this special boy, Zeus has found his furever home where he'll continue his service as an ESA for a family who will make use of his experience serving kids with special needs.

This has been an incredibly gratifying experience and I'm proud to have helped get Zeus out of the shelter and into a home where he'll be loved for the rest of his days. Our shelters are bursting at the seams, so if you have the space and patience to host a foster pet, I encourage you to show some love to those sweet pups and kitties who want nothing more than to show you love back. Fosters are 17 times more likely to be adopted than pets in the shelter, and you'll be making room for more animals in need.

Thanks to City of Jacksonville Animal Care & Protective Services and the foster community for their help and guidance throughout the process.

PUPDATE: Zeus has found his furever home! Thanks to everyone who helped spread the word about this special boy.

Clean Paws’ first resident foster, Zeus, is warming up so nicely to life outside the shelter. Zeus has perfect manners, comes in and outside on command, nibbles treats from your fingers so gently and grumbles and chirps like Stitch when he’s overcome with excitement.

His favorite thing to do is to burrow his way under the covers and sleep like a baby. He asks permission first, but when granted, he knows exactly where he wants to be: glued to your side.

Zeus doesn’t like to be alone, but he spent 4 hours in the kennel last night with no accidents, which is huge progress from just the day before. If you’re interested in adopting Zeus, expect a week long adjustment period while he gets comfortable and learns to trust feeling safe in his new space. I’m certain with time and training that his separation anxiety is fixable, but he will cry and howl at home alone for the first few days. He may not be the best fit for an apartment/condo or a household that will leave him home alone for long periods of time consistently.

I’m in contact with two families that will be able to make use of Zeus’s past as an ESA for a child with special needs. Zeus is a very special boy and there’s a special child and family out there that he wants to be with.

PUPDATE: Zeus has found his furever home! Thanks to everyone who helped spread the word about this special boy.

Meet Zeus. This kind 40 lb 5 year old neutered gentleman was an ESA for an autistic child. The family’s parents weren’t in the picture and the young teenage sibling/caretaker and the child were placed in a home by CPS where they couldn’t keep Zeus. They walked 7 miles to the shelter and back to drop Zeus off.

Zeus wants nothing more than to be with his people. He’s very well behaved, house trained, has lived with cats and other dogs in the past. Zeus is fostering at my home where he’ll stay until we find his furever family.

He didn’t bark at the doorbell, isn’t interested in chewing on stuff (except tasty treats), comes inside when called and takes treats very gently.

He unsurprisingly has separation anxiety that we’re working on, but with time out of the shelter I think he’ll settle into a chill routine very easily.
