When I first got Gunner, the plan was he was going to be my little hunting buddy. Just me, him, and the backwater swamps after I’d moved to West Tennessee. I never could’ve imagined just how much he’d change my life.
When he was still just a puppy, I met my now husband — while duck hunting, of course. He was a guide on Reelfoot Lake.
By the next season, I finally convinced him to let Gunner join us in the blind. He had his doubts — Gunner was small, and Reelfoot is no easy lake. But I told him, “Just trust him. All this dog wants to do is hunt.”
Fast forward to now, and we’re heading into our fourth season together. And guess who hunts almost every single day with his “dad”? That’s right — my little brown dog, Gunner.
He’s proof that heart matters more than size, and I couldn’t be prouder of the dog who started it all.
