A conversation I’ve had with HUNDREDS of humans…

Person: “My dog can’t sit still”
Me: “Have you tried telling your dog to sit still in a way they actually understand?”
Person: “Yes! I’ve tried yelling, I’ve tried giving them a bone to chew on, I don’t think they understand the word SIT!”
Me: “Exactly. Dogs DON’T understand the word SIT. They don’t understand any words unless YOU take the time and energy to teach them those words.”
Person: “What do you mean?”
Me: “Dogs don’t communicate verbally. They don’t understand or speak OUR human way of talking. They communicate through energy and body language. You need to use those two things to make your dog sit, then label it with the word. Then do that as many times as it takes for the dog to make the connection between the word you are saying and the action you are creating. Or, hire a dog trainer to do that part for you.”
Person: “So you will teach my dog how to sit still when I’m done playing with them?”
Me: “I will teach them how to, yes. But you will still need to give the command so they know that is what you want.”
**Dog comes for training, goes home, time passes by**
Person: “My dog won’t sit still.”
Me: “Have you tried using PLACE command?”
Person: “No. I thought if I played with them they would tire out.”

To lead your dog, you don’t need to dominate; you need to guide. Your energy teaches them how to feel. Your direction shows them where to go. That’s real leadership.

Para liderar a tu perro no necesitas dominarlo, necesitas guiarlo.
Tu energía les enseña cómo sentir.
Tu dirección les enseña a dónde ir.
