Weird space in stair case

Just moved into a new house and we have this weird little cutout in our stair case and are not sure what to do with it. It’s 38in. wide, 18in. deep, and 48in. Tall. It started about 6 feet from the stairs so I’ll need a ladder or step stool to get up into it. We have already done a lot of painting and upgrading and this area has us stumped. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Did I f**k up on wallpaper selection?

Got carlisle and co in need of tweed wallpaper in porcelain. Was hoping to bring out some of the warmer tones of my house. Was installed while on vacation

Now that I’m home, it looks right very rarely. Half the time it looks flat grey, and sometimes even has a bit of a green or turquoise tint that doesn’t show up in photos. Where did I go wrong? Anything can do to fix it without ripping it out?

I don’t like my parents furniture

My parents bought a house in Florida and are beginning to decorate it. They sent this picture of the new furniture they bought and I hate it. They have a warm tone kitchen and this is all cool tone. Is that the main issue here? Or am I wrong and this looks nice? Should I suggest something to improve it? I don’t live with them btw, they are retiring and this will be their only house.

Edit: Getting a lot of comments that I shouldn’t care. Should add context that they asked me and my sisters what we think. They don’t have any design experience and before they moved in they told us to help them with designing it.

What can I do to enhance all these windows?

This living room is sad. So many windows (I have garbage bags over a couple windows to cut down on afternoon sun) and I have zero ideas on how to decorate. This room echoes, the upper windows are about 20’ up and I would love some creative & unique ideas on how to address window coverings in addition to the existing blinds. Tall drapes? You won’t hurt my feelings…I need some help, so any suggestions are welcome! (Note: I will address the ugly tile flooring later) 😊🤪 Thanks in advance for your input!

Which one is better?

Which one is better, the one with two thinner mirrors or the bigger one? Chatgpt created images. The pic is quite descriptive of my place/layout that its fair to say close enough.

Problem: I have now a cheap painting hung too high to cover two larger screw holes. The separating wall is wall papered, I cant spot fix them so I need to cover them. The screw holes are basically around 20cm (8 inches?) below the top of the two mirrors in the first pic. So what should I do? Are mirrors in general an okay choise? I only got one in the hallway, so my place definitely does not have too many mirrors. Thanks!

Everything is in okay shape except the wallpaper. Critique my plan.


1. Remove wallpaper down to smooth drywall surface. if I can’t get it all off, skim coat to create smooth surface.

2. Prime and paint walls and ceiling, maybe a neutral blue. paint vent cover white.


3. New faucets and sink drains. new towel rack. New mirrors. possible black matte finish for faucets and mirror trim.

4. paint cabinets and replace hardware.


5. paint all tile in neutral white. I know tile paint is controversial but I don’t have time or money to tear it out and replace.

not ideal but will probably keep existing brown wood trim.
