Greenwood Indiana Farmers Market starts this upcoming Saturday- April 26th from 8-Noon.

Less than a week away from opening day!!
Rustic Hill Farm will be there with plants galore. We have a variety of vegetable plants but our main focus is on herbs. Stop by to check out our infused Salts & Sugars as well as freshly dried herbs (organically grown right here on the farm) to spice up your life!

Can't make it to market? We can also be found online at MarketWagon for Thursday delivery. (Plus a few products we only carry online 😘)

This weekend my granddaughter and I picked wild flowers for our muffins. We made a batch of gluten free muffins and added some dandelions, violets and henbit. Very delicious and I was able to teach her about foraging πŸ₯°

I am my own competition πŸ˜„. I'm pretty sure this is double from previous years.

There are still numerous plants I want to grow- just out of lights and space for the moment.

I got on on the snail trail before it was cool. πŸ˜…

For those who haven't discovered this method yet...I think I am digging it. I used packing styrofoam for these "snails". The goal is to be able to separate the roots more easily during transplanting time. I do have to say that the germination was much faster. Coincidence, maybe? Regardless it's cool to watch grow!

Very grateful that my boys have been helping me with the garden clean up the last few days. We have found some interesting, photo worthy, stuff.

First the insert to my cloth wagon must have some fungi (not sure) growing on it. Just a little cropping add a black and white filter then presto - art.

Second is a few photos of a tomatillo from last season that decomposed but left a very fragile skeleton behind. My garden is full of them and they are amazing. I didn't want to grow tomatillos this year because they are not a great seller and we don't eat it often but this part of it is cool. Maybe I will find a spot now.

Then just for funzies I spent the afternoon making limoncello...It's a process. I'll report back in 90 days *ish.

Hahaha well there's that. My roosters don't do that 🀣

I know it's hard to see the green poking up but I promise it's there! My phone camera is acting up so excuse that mess on the left of the screen.

This is finally going to be my garlic year, I can feel it. Better be. I'm struggling to recall how
many I planted but I think it's around the 200 mark. I've seriously never been successful but I watched numerous videos, tried all the things, and here we are. Still a long way to go but I'm hopeful 😍

While it's been cold outside we have been busy inside. Basil is coming in strong and will be available for sale in the next few weeks.

Pictured are:

Sweet Basil - the classic
Lemon Basil-(my personal favorite) fantastic lemon flavor and scent.
Thai Basil- licorice-like flavor
Chinese Basil- strong Citrus flavor
Queen Thai Basil- Bold, licorice-anise-clove flavor

We are also offering:

Holy basil- known for health benefits.

Blue Spice Basil- this is said to have spicy vanilla overtones. I'm super curious!

Evivi Ntor Basil- pine and citrus overtones

Hello Wooly Devil. Sounds so scandalous. 😈

A brand new species and genus in the plant world. Super cool!

The plant, formally known as Ovicula biradiata, is especially notable for being the simultaneous discovery of a new species and genus. It was found with help from the community science app iNaturalist.

Anyone thinking about Easter yet?! 🐰

I ran across this video and I have to say that I admire the creativity! If you are looking for a healthy, fun way to dye eggs- this post is for you!

However I am not sure how they will taste πŸ˜•
I'll post a list in the comments for the foods and dye it produces.

Building healthy soil to deter pests is vitally important. It's horrifying how much of our day to day foods are full of pesticides!

Glyphosate (widely used chemical pesticide) is in many foods we eat. The most common are listed in the article below. Including berries! Some our food is sprayed with it just because it makes the drying process faster!!! Literally poison.

What can you do?

**Compost** for healthy soil.

**Biochar is fantastic for your soil- look at adding some in.

**Companion planting** - harmful bugs hate strong smells. Mint, cilantro, dill, borage, lavender, sage, rosemary, garlic, onions. You get it. Cilantro has been my #1 favorite for pest control.

**Buying organic foods

**Buying from local farmers (like us 😘) that do not use pesticides.

Seems like every time a government agency or public interest group tests food for Monsanto's weedkiller glyphosate, which has been linked to cancer, they find it.

It really does seem like there is a use for everything!! I have been reading that avocado pit infused in alcohol or witch hazel can provide instant pain relief for joints. Curious if anyone has tried it??!! I'm whipping up a batch today. Crushing the skin was fun (although I don't know what I am going to do with it), next to cut up the pits, infuse it for a few weeks, then I will report my findings back.
