IN LOVING MEMORY OF SERENDIPITY ❤️🐾❤️
Serendipity came to us in a box, just 3 months old – a tiny black kitten with enormous yellow eyes and a heart full of fear. Though she was placed in a room full of lively kittens, she never quite trusted the humans who came to care for her. She lived quietly among them, always present, always watching, but always just out of reach.
For years, Serendipity was over looked – not for lack of beauty, but for the gentle wall she built between herself and the world. Yet those who truly knew her understood that behind her wide, soulful eyes was a cat who wanted to belong. The volunteers never gave up on her. They saw the flickers of courage, the quiet longing for connection.
About 3 years ago when we moved into the new shelter she began to come out of her shell – cautiously but with hope. She would accept a treat, sometimes allow a soft stroke on her head and then retreat to her favorite cubby, where she felt safe. In a room full of black cats, everyone always knew Serendipity – her eyes told the story of a tender soul who had seen much and trusted little.
The past 2 years we saw her struggling with pulmonary issues. Medication was never easy, but Dr. Rob and the medical team did everything they could to ease her discomfort. This week, her body told us it was time. We did not want to see her suffer, and so, with love and peace, we let her go.
Her parting gift was the most profound of all – she allowed us to hold her front paws, pet her gently from head to tail, and kiss her goodbye on the top of her head. In that moment, she gave us the connection she had held back for so long.
Now, Serendipity joins the many beloved feline and human souls we have lost over the years – free, whole and unafraid.
Rest in peace, sweet girl. You were loved deeply and you will be missed more than you could ever know.🌈
