One of the things I appreciate most about horses is their honesty.
They don't hide discomfort, frustration, tension, or relief. They communicate it in the only ways they know how. The challenge for us is learning to slow down enough to listen.
This sweet filly enjoyed a post-ride neck massage today. Moments like these are a reminder that even the most stoic horses are constantly telling us something. A tight muscle, a subtle reaction, a deep sigh, a lowered head. Horses offer clues about how they're feeling both physically and mentally.
When we take the time to tune in, our horses can help us better understand not only their needs, but sometimes our own approach as riders and caretakers as well.
