Help Gutty Heal ❤️‍🩹

Sweet little Gutty has had a rough start. After coming into our care with a severely injured eye, we spent weeks trying everything possible to save it. Unfortunately, the damage was too extensive, and Gutty ultimately needed surgery to remove the eye.

Between multiple vet visits, medications, testing, anesthesia, and surgery, Gutty’s medical bills have now reached over $700.

🚨 MISSOURI CITY RESIDENTS — PLEASE READ & SIGN

Many of us recently learned that Missouri City is considering a major change to our Animal Services program that could include closing or repurposing our local animal shelter and outsourcing sheltering services to the Houston Humane Society.

Before a decision this significant is made, I believe residents deserve to see the complete numbers and understand exactly what this will mean for our animals, our taxpayers, and our community.

This isn’t about attacking City Council or City staff. It’s about asking reasonable questions before Missouri City gives up something that may be extremely difficult to rebuild later.

What will outsourcing actually cost taxpayers?

How was the approximately $1,400-per-dog figure discussed at Council calculated?

What happens to our existing shelter?

Where will residents go when they find a stray animal or lose their own pet?

What alternatives to closing the shelter were evaluated?

And most importantly: Why shouldn’t residents have an opportunity to weigh in before a potentially permanent decision is made?

We’ve started a petition asking Missouri City to PAUSE the proposed shelter closure/repurposing, release the complete financial and operational analysis, evaluate alternatives, and hold a public meeting specifically about the future of Animal Services before moving forward.

Keep Animal Services Local: Ask Missouri City to Pause the Shelter Closure

We have an update regarding the Missouri City Animal Shelter is not what many of us expected—or hoped for.

Rather than investing in our local shelter and the services provided right here in our community, the City is moving toward outsourcing those services to the Houston Humane Society. That means Missouri City taxpayer dollars will be spent outside of our community instead of being invested in improving and supporting our own municipal animal shelter.

I believe our community deserves to know what is happening and to have a voice in how our tax dollars are being used—especially when it affects a service that belongs to all of us.
