This rider is starting to put all the cues together for a controlled short rundown into a small slower stop.

Timing, body cues, verbal cues, hands and trusting the horse your riding plays a major part of asking any horse to stop.

First canter is always the scariest when learning to ride.

You totally worry about speed, control, balance, control of direction, hands, and so much more and forget to actually breathe.
Thats normal for the first several times.

However once you relax it will be so much fun.

So happy to see an open rider mind set!

This rider is doing english lessons and I was doing a hands on aids demo using Toy. And Yes he knows how to collect for English.

I asked would you like to try a reiner. Not asking her to change discipline but be open to try something different.

To improve your riding you cannot be closed minded. If you are riding correctly the saddle makes no darn difference between being english or western.
I wish the stigma of western vs english would go away. Be open minded as riders and it will.

Our new rider is doing amazing with changes made through sitting trot and learning rryhmn through seat to lower leg to ankle into hands to shoulder.

Never ask a horse to go forward without pushing from your body to engage the horses hindquaters.

Most kick snd then pull and wonder why the horse will not go forward.

Yours hands are the last part of collection. The lighter your hands the more collection you will achieve from your body aids moving forwards.

This is during a training session with Sholtz. This horse so wishes to please me she wants to throw herself into the right turn arounds and suck back way too much. . I block her with inside aids and ask for more shoulder lift and forward motion and when she lowers her neck by lifting her shouder and feels as if going forward I will then allow her to turn. And yes I am using two hands. When its necessary you need to switch from one to tge otger while riding, theres nothing wrong with foing that. Then i will go back to one handing once she’s agreed to my suggested terms of the tutnsround. Such a talented Tricked Out Spook Mare.

Great lesson with this lesson goer as she learned how to operate her lower leg rather than only use her hands to turn the corner.

Having something to focus on by using drills makes a huge difference.

Great riding girl. Nothing great comes easy!!

This rider is gaining confidence and to help I add challenges. Doing turns through poles and into the box then asking for a turn and walk out.

Here she is pulling her right knee up and in turn is pulling her right heel up and toe down. As I refer to the ballet toe, that’s a no no!

Everyone has a bad side including myself and we need to work harder on one side more while riding.

We all have both good and bad days so never get discouraged or defeated. Stay focused on your goal and you will achieve it!

Great job by this rider. Second lesson on Toy and learning about riding a reiner/ ranch horse. Did fantastic.

I sometimes use a horse during lesson to help with visualization of the aids sholtz isnt the best as she doesn't like being pushed around rather than just being allowed to do her job so gets a little snakey(mare of course) when i get too pushiy heavy handed or over cue for maneuvers. Her head and attitude says it all

!

Great job riding a faster turnaround. Breath, sit deep and go with the horse ryhmn and go with the flow. She also was hangng on with her legs. You must open the doors to allow the horse to do its job. Not as easy as it looks in the show pen.
