Houston Chow Chow Connection Succeeding in meeting the hopes and dreams of potential adopters by matching them with chow chows in need of new forever homes. We ended 2023 saving 152!

Houston Chow Chow Connection is a collaborative of dog lovers and rescuers that dedicate their time, efforts and talents toward helping rescue Chow Chows in need. We are an entirely volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) organization with no administrative costs. Our rescue traces its origin back several years to the work of Dianne Watson. Dianne dedicated much of her young life to saving homeless Chows in N

orth and West Texas. In her memory, Houston Chow Chow Connection continues her passion of uniting Chow Chows with perfect forever families. HCCC began rescuing in 2013 and re-homed almost 1300 dogs since inception. Our dogs found homes on the East and West coasts of the U.S. and have traveled north and south even into Canada! As we continue to rescue and re-home more and more Chows, our costs grow. As you may know, rescuing animals takes money. Not only is there the typical care and upkeep (including food and general veterinary care), some of our rescues need specialized treatments. At HCCC we don’t pick and choose the dogs we rescue – they pick us. While the majority of our rescues are healthy, we never turn our backs on the homeless, Chows with physical issues, or disabilities. Some of our incoming babies have suffered long-term and extensive neglect. New HCCC dogs may require spay/neuter, shaving due to extensive matting, entropion and/or hip replacement surgeries, treatment of skin problems and a variety of other issues. We acquire much of our financing through donations and fund-raisers. Please help us provide our Chow babies with the quality of life they so richly deserve.

🐾 STARSKY & HUTCH! Still available?! 🐾

Some partnerships are just meant to be, and Starsky and Hutch are already proving they're the perfect little duo. ❤️

These two adorable red boys arrived from the Oklahoma City shelter and have wasted no time settling into foster care. Despite being young puppies, they've taken everything in stride and are already showing what wonderful companions they're going to become.

At just under three months old, these playful brothers have the best balance of puppy energy. They love romping around with other puppies, playing until they're tired, and then happily settling down to relax. They're social, affectionate, and incredibly sweet with everyone they meet.

Their foster is especially impressed with how quickly they're catching on to crate training. They're already sleeping through the night without accidents—a huge accomplishment for puppies their age!

These handsome little guys are expected to be ready for adoption in late August, and we can't wait to watch them continue to grow.

At just 35 pounds, Poppet is the perfect petite companion. She loves car rides, neighborhood walks, yummy treats, and soaking up all the attention you can give her. She's affectionate, gentle, and has a way of making everyone around her smile.

Poppet enjoys the company of other dogs and likes to play, but she's also polite about letting her friends know when she's ready for a break. Every day she grows more confident as she continues discovering just how wonderful life can be.

Chalupa update! 🐾😍

Foster Tanisha reports this boy is an absolute HAM with the best zoomies she has ever seen!

He even tilts head with expressions as if laughing at his own jokes! 😂🫶🏼

He will be fully vetted on August 25. He is still in “quarantine” from other dogs to let his Upper Respiratory Infection from the shelter fully heal.

Look at this handsome, majestic boy! But don’t be fooled by his perfect smile and flawless hairstyling - Leon is a silly goofball who wants nothing more than a family of his own to love and keep entertained.

Yes, Leon loves his humans! He can be active, or snuggly - whatever you can do together! But when needed, he’s also done well left alone, usually loose in a relatively dog-safe room or kennel space. He hasn’t been crated much but he has some practice with that in the past.

Leon also loves other dogs! He’s a young boy who’s still learning some manners, but that hasn’t kept him from making friends of all kinds. If another pup is down for zoomies, playtime, or just chilling, Leon is down too!

While he’s been quite the lion-hearted little boy through a lot of changes in his life so far, he can be fearful of a lot of the new things and general chaos of city life. He’d do best in a house with a back yard where he can run, play, sniff, relax, and do his business without surprises.

Leon is currently located in Evergreen, CO by the amazing Anne, who also adopted Ripley from us!!

🐾 ** — Progress Looks Like Trust** 🐾

When this handsome guy arrived as a stray, he was very much a “I’ll decide when we’re friends” kind of Chow—aloof, cautious, and clear about his boundaries.

That’s exactly what Brooke Williams, our incredible boarding facilitator, has respected.❤️ Three weeks ago, she was getting low growls and serious “please give me space” looks. She never forced the relationship. She simply gave him time.

And look at him now:
✨ Comfortable being woken and petted in his crate
✨ Enjoying full-body pets and belly rubs
✨ Still head-shy, but increasingly trusting
✨ **Recently licked Brooke’s hand!** 🥹
✨ Increasingly comfortable coexisting with other dogs—though not a play buddy

For a dog who once guarded his personal space so carefully, these are **huge steps.**

There’s still more to learn, including his discomfort with some men. We’ll keep listening to him and letting trust happen at his pace.

On August 25, he’ll visit a Fear Free veterinarian for his full vetting.

For now, we’re celebrating: three weeks, one patient Chow-savvy human, and one boy learning that his boundaries can be respected—and maybe people can be trusted.*❤️🐾

At just 1 year old and 44 pounds, Rizzy is a quiet companion who loves affection once she knows you’re a friend. Neck scratches are her favorite, and she’ll happily lean against you for attention and love. She also enjoys being around other dogs and is always interested in making new canine friends.

🐶 Personality:

Rizzy is a classic young Chow—gentle, observant, and thoughtful. She prefers to take a little time getting to know new people and can be shy when approached by strangers. She may bark or huff at unfamiliar people at first, but once she feels comfortable, her sweet personality quickly comes through.

And we’re getting to see more of that personality every day! Rizzy is so sweet and dog friendly, even giving friendly dogs a little nose bump through the fence when they pass by. 🐾

She is crate trained, walks well on leash, and absolutely loves playtime with her foster friends.

Right now, she’s having a blast with another cream-colored foster, Fleetwood Mac. The two girls run hard, fast and apparently aren’t afraid of a good tackle roll! 😂 Because Rizzy sometimes forgets when playtime should end, they get separate pen time to cool down before starting all over again.

Rizzy is looking for a family that appreciates the special bond Chows are known for—one built on trust, patience, and loyalty. Give her a little time to know you, and you’ll get to see the incredibly sweet girl underneath that cautious first impression.

Five tiny peaks are getting ready for their biggest adventure yet — finding their forever homes! ❤️

Born May 5, 2026, Dakota’s five puppies are growing fast, getting fluffy, and finally starting to show us just how much fun they’re going to be.

Pike, Blanca and Naomi have beautiful solid lighter coats, while Twilight and Elbert are solid black with unbelievably silky fur — almost like petting a cat.

And because every little adventurer deserves a BIG name, each puppy was named after a mountain peak. 🏔️
🤍 PIKE — Male
Named for Pikes Peak, one of Colorado’s famous 14,000-foot summits.
🤎 BLANCA — Female
Named for Blanca Peak, one of Colorado’s towering fourteeners at more than 14,300 feet.
🤎 NAOMI — Female
Named for Naomi Peak, the highest point in Utah’s Bear River Range.
🖤 TWILIGHT — Female
Named for Twilight Peak, a dramatic 13,000+ foot summit in Colorado’s San Juan Mountains.
🖤 ELBERT — Male
Our biggest puppy gets a fitting namesake! Mount Elbert is the highest summit in the entire Rocky Mountains. 🏔️
Mom Dakota is a petite cream Chow Chow, while dad’s identity remains a mystery.

Sriracha sauce is a popular puppy condiment made from love, puppy energy, and goofiness.

Named as such because his momma is Patty (like a yummy hamburger patty) and she needed some condiments to compliment her. Sriracha is widely recognized in its iconic squeezable fuzzy body with floppy ears and a cute button nose.

Ingredients:
✅Chili Peppers: because every puppy has a little spice
✅Garlic: because everyone needs something to keep everyone from squeezing them to tight
✅Vinegar and Sugar: because they balance each other out the spice with a sharp tang and mild sweetness that 4 month old puppies possess

Heat Level: Generally mild to medium, depending on time of day and how many playmates are involved.
