❤️ IT IS WITH HEARTFELT JOY THAT WE ANNOUNCE EVANGELINE IS FINALLY READY FOR ADOPTION. ❤️
Before we tell her story, we want to pause and recognize the incredible people who made this moment possible.
To Harrison and Carol, who opened their home and hearts to Evangeline for months this spring and summer—thank you. You patiently worked through her fear, her medical needs, her uncertainty, and her distrust of the world. You taught her about comfort, routine, socialization, and human kindness. You celebrated the smallest victories and never gave up on her when progress came slowly.
The dog you see today exists because of the countless hours, patience, and love you poured into her.
And to our nationwide village of supporters—thank you. Every donation, every share, every encouraging comment, every prayer, every message asking for updates, and every ounce of love sent from across the country helped carry Evangeline to this day. The medical care, medications, diagnostics, boarding, and specialized treatment she received were only possible because so many people believed she was worth saving.
This happy ending belongs to all of you.
🐾🐾 EVANGELINE'S SECOND CHANCE 🐾🐾
Back in January, two frightened dogs arrived in our care.
Their names were Theodore and Evangeline.
They came to us carrying the weight of years of neglect. Their collars were embedded beneath heavily matted fur and had to be cut away piece by piece. Both suffered from severe skin disease, painful ear infections, extensive hair loss, heartworm disease, and eyes that had gone untreated for far too long.
Veterinary records described Evangeline as extremely fearful. She didn't know that people could be kind. She didn't know what safety felt like.
We promised both dogs that their story wasn't over.
Sadly, Theodore's body was simply too tired to continue the fight. Despite every effort, we lost him just weeks after intake.
Evangeline stayed.
And little by little, she began to heal.
Not just her skin.
Not just her eyes.
Her heart.
Today, six months later, the frightened little dog who once wanted nothing to do with people has blossomed into one of the easiest companions we've ever fostered.
At approximately 7 years old and just 40 pounds, Evangeline is quiet, gentle, and wonderfully low maintenance. She is fully house trained, crate trained, and respectful in the home. She doesn't need long walks, constant entertainment, or a busy lifestyle.
She simply wants to belong.
A porch to sit on.
A peaceful home.
A person to share life with.
Evangeline enjoys the company of other dogs and is happy to peacefully coexist with dogs of any size or gender. She loves being part of the group, quietly observing the action and joining in when she chooses.
And when she loves you, she loves deeply.
She still appreciates a calm environment and patient people. Sudden movements, loud chaos, and busy households can make her uneasy, so she would do best in an adult home or one with older, respectful teenagers.
The beautiful thing about Evangeline is that we've watched her learn to trust again. Over the past six months she has bonded with multiple caregivers, proving that beneath her cautious Chow exterior is an incredibly sweet soul who wants connection just as much as any other dog.
Her autoimmune eye condition has improved tremendously during her time in rescue. She will continue to need prescription eye ointment every few days to keep her comfortable—a small commitment for a dog who asks for so very little in return.
Today her coat is thick and soft. Her eyes are brighter. Her tail wags more often.
She looks like a little bear.
But what we see is a survivor.
A dog who endured more than she ever should have.
A dog who never stopped trying.
A dog who is finally ready to be somebody's beloved companion.
Theodore never got the chance to find his happy ending.
We would love nothing more than for Evangeline to find hers.
