Moon IS such a precious Dog!
At the height of euthanasia season (and yes, there is a season for this...please check on your vet friends) I am grateful that Moon did not meet this end.

This light and joy you see in her eyes... deserves to have many more years on this planet making her human laugh at her silly antics like this.

Moon is back on the market looking for her forever home. Her potential adopter did not work out, not to any fault if her own! But the other dog in the home wasn't keen on a sibling. We all were disappointed in this but luckily we all were on the same page about wanting the best situation for everyone involved.

It's common in rescue, especially with dogs who have behavioral struggles like Moon, to try to force adoptions to work so the dog can move and more dogs can be saved. Although it's understandable, it's not what's best. And Moon here deserves the best.

Moon is looking for;
- someone who has a yard and isn’t keen on walks, but loves tossing a tennis ball! (Perfect for someone older who wants a loving goofball to keep them young!)
- someone who has cats, a dog who is low key and wants to coexist with someone else, or has no other pets so she can be the solo princess
- someone who is a homebody or has a separate room to put her in when guests are over
- someone who wants a dog who can make you laugh and smile at her seal barks
- someone who is into couch snuggles and lazy hangs
- someone who wants to directly help people who were affected by ICE; giving a home to a dog who's life was ripped apart by this injustice
- someone who will give her the time to open up and show you this silly side to her.

And honestly y'all; she has improved SO MUCH since coming to stay with me. I can't believe it has been almost 5 months. And yes she still has some quirks, but don't we all? If I didn't have my two senior animals who do NOT want to share their space I would deeply consider keeping her. But I promised my dog that she would be a solo dog in her golden years...

So help me keep my promise to Kenna, help Moon get into a home where she is getting the space and time and attention she deserves. Please share!

Helping dogs with conflicting emotions around play understand "it's just a game man!"

Monroe is a sensitive baby who benefits from me using exaggerated calming signals and play solicitation moves to help him know that this is a game and there is no need for conflict! I am not doing this because Monroe is aggressive in ANY WAY. He is just a wittle baby!! But he can have moments of feeling "awkward" or not knowing what to do. Just like us, not all emotions are straightforward!

So I am doing several things here to help him see this is all just a game:

1. Exaggerated play solicitation (loose body, play bows, tongue out)
2. Exaggerated calming signals (head turns, long blinks, rolling over)
3. I am not taking the toy from him - I am letting him choose to bring it to me instead. This eliminated the conflict of guarding the toy

And honestly? It's fun to play with your dog like this! It's a conversation, I get to act like a fool and actually play with my whole body like a kid (which reduces stress, boosts creativity, improves brain function, strengthens relationships, and enhances physical/mental health in adults) and he also is getting that social bonding and enrichment that dogs need to live happier healthier lives.

I want to see more people acting a goober (intentionally) with their dogs! Post your goofy dog play videos too!

It's been one year since my sweet baby cat Waynameow left this plane of existence. Many times I have missed his calm grounding energy in my house and in my heart. We made a memorial garden for him, with his little spiral, and today Monroe helped me finish the path. He was very proud that he got to help 🥰

Poor girl is afraid of mechanical noises (which were going on this morning) but we are getting creative with how to help her feel better about them when they happen 🤣😂🤣

The Q***r Holiday Exchange went soooooooo well yesterday! So many cool people came by, had great conversations and honestly...it feels so good to be just hanging out with other people who are passionate about creating community while also HELPING the community. So let's talk about that for a minute;

Community is such a buzzword. It's honestly annoying. Because when most people say "community" they mean "people hanging out and making small talk" but what real community is, is showing up even when it's not convenient for you.

Its putting the action and time behind your words. It's making an effort to get to know someone and share meaningful conversation, not just surface s**t. It's buying everyone coffee, making delicious vegan chili for everyone, its bringing your son who gives great hugs with you and making HEB runs to make the best damn hot chocolate you ever had, it's using your building niche to make the clothes set up work, it's smiling at everyone who walks in so they know they're safe here, it's making snuffle mats together because Atalie couldn't get them done in time🤣, it's holding a stranger's foster puppy so they could look at clothes, it's showing up to show support even though you are crashing from work, it's coordinating all the shifting aspects and bringing people together even when you have a long week and you're tired and honestly don't want to in the moment...

That's community.
That is what is happening with the Q***r Exchange.
And I feel so honored to be a part of it,
And proud of my bestie/housemate/chosen family for putting this concept together.

The chicken saga continues!

Turns out miss Sareli is a Game Fowl which are bred for c**k fighting. It's common to see hens like her dumped 😭 but becausenof her breed they can be difficult to integrate into egg laying flocks. hooked us up with Tiffany at where me and drove her out to Round Rock yesterday to live the rest of her life roosting in trees and being a wild girl like she was always meant to be!

I just want to give a huge shout out to Tiffany at The Chicken Rescue. Thank you for all you do for these beautiful creatures!! There are few (if any other) rescues around that focus solely on chickens and giving this neglected and abused species the opportunity to live out their lives as nature intended. It's been so eye opening to experience this rescue with miss Sareli about how much need there is to protect and advocate for these sweet hens. We really appreciated her taking the time to give us a tour, and even let me take photos with her phone because I left mine in the car!

I haven't posted about Moon for a while! Remember the dog whose owner was taken by ICE that I have been fostering? She is still here with me and working on being the best dog she can be for her future family!

She has made SO MUCH PROGRESS and I am so proud of her ❤️ I really feel now she's at a place where she can meet her forever home. From being terrified of everything, fence fighting and attacking dogs on sight (even my dog statue😳) and not trusting any new people including me the first week to NOW having several human and dog (and even a cat!) friends, and blossoming into her goofy silly self🥰

But one thing we have had little progress with is walks 🫠. She isnt reactive (thank the dog gods) but she is fearful, her nervous system is jacked up, and she just wants to just go home. And my neighborhood has a lot of car sounds which is public enemy number one - so not even her yard feels safe sometimes 😭. So this week I took her on a decompression walk far away from cars and even though it took 3hrs, she finally laid down and relaxed when we stayed in one spot for an extended period of time. She even was calm enough to take treats and play fetch! Which is huge! 🪅🥳🎊🥂🎉🙌

So if you know someone looking for a lovable, snuggly, goofy, hilarious and gorgeous sheppie in their life - let me know! People who have land, are couch potatoes and don't like going for walks, front of the line please 🤣😂👌

This girl has been living at the gas station across from me for the last few weeks and I've been feeding her, but today I captured her with and agreed to integrate her into her flock! Thank you for coordinating her new home🥰

Moon's First Bath 🛀
She did so well! She is so funny, she was not loving being tethered, but when the water came on she was so calm until I was done - then she zoomed around the yard like a little man woman 🤣So proud of this girl! She's had so many life adjustments in such a short time - but getting to see her open up into the loving dog she truly is has been inspiring❤️
