Our friends at Veterans K9Equine Alliance are doing amazing work across the country, supporting veterans by providing for the horses and dogs in veteran service organizations. We are grateful and honored to partner with them to serve veterans here in the greater Houston area.

🎉 TWO YEARS AGO TODAY 🎉

On June 10, 2024, Veterans K9Equine Alliance began with a simple mission:

Support the dogs and horses helping veterans heal.

What started as an idea has grown into something far bigger than we could have imagined.

In just two years, we’ve partnered with more than 50 incredible equine and K9 organizations across 28 states, helping strengthen the programs that provide healing, connection, and hope to our nation’s veterans.

Every partnership formed.
Every mile traveled.
Every dog fed.
Every horse cared for.
Every veteran impacted.

None of it happens alone.

To our partner organizations, supporters, donors, volunteers, sponsors, and friends: thank you for believing in this mission and helping us build something meaningful.

We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together, but we’re even more excited about what’s ahead.

The mission continues.

Here’s to the next chapter.

Ruby and Amara are budding besties 💕 Good friends are essential for feeling safe and supported, whether you’re a horse or a human. We love seeing the sweet connection growing between these lovely ladies.

Healing happens together ♥️

Just over a year ago, Amara was hiding in the back of a paddock, avoiding contact with people who had proven themselves to not be safe, or kind, or trustworthy.

She arrived at Ruby’s with a deep concern about people, even freezing and mentally “checking out” when she was approached and haltered. She had no reason to believe we would be different.

But we ARE different, and every person she experienced in the last year has shown her what it is like to be safe and cared for. Our veterans and youth who have their own difficult pasts helped her. In doing so, they helped themselves.

So you can imagine our delight when this week she was the first in our herd to leave her hay and horse friends to greet a new group of visitors. She took time to gently greet each one, asking for a kind touch and knowing that she would receive it. She basked in their attention, and when class was done, enjoyed the kind of rest that is only possible when one feels truly safe and protected.

This is our work here at Ruby’s. This is our joy - sharing together the experiences that support both horses and people in overcoming trauma to build a life full of security, community and wellbeing.

This is what is possible when you support Ruby’s Home for Good.

While every traumatic experience is different, the impact is often quite the same -

The loss of peace.

The absence of purpose.

The struggle to connect.

Time and again we hear the same themes from the veterans who come to Ruby’s Home for Good.

And just as frequently, our veterans experience significant shifts from time in our programs.

Tension releases. Relaxation appears. Even joy and awe arrive through impactful moments with our herd, and with each other.
