Starlight Outreach and Rescue

Starlight Outreach and Rescue Starlight Outreach and Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue, founded & led by a female veteran. Starlight Outreach and Rescue (S.O.A.R.)

is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue that started with a small group of volunteers who wanted to support the efforts of Houston-area shelters to provide a better quality of life for stray and abandoned animals, medical attention beyond the scope/capabilities of the facilities, and fostering and rescue services for animals with special needs. The organization is named in honor of Emma Starlight Hy

de who was just 14 years old when she passed away unexpectedly in October 2017. Emma and her mom Shelley, with the support of their family, volunteered at shelter events, such as the annual Shelter Dog Birthday Party, and fostered baby kittens to ensure they received proper socialization and feeding during the weaning period. Emma put in a lot of time and effort to get her kittens used to interaction with and handling by people, which helped ensured all her fosters were highly adoptable by the time they returned to the shelter and were put up for adoption.

Emma’s bright and caring spirit continues on in this organization, lighting the way for stray and abandoned pets to find their way to their forever homes.

Emergency Kitten Intake – We Need Your Help 🐾

This tiny girl was found completely alone just hours before severe weather rolled in. No mom, no littermates—nothing to help keep her warm or safe. We couldn’t turn her away.

We weren’t expecting to take in a kitten at this time, and her care will require vetting, supplies, and close monitoring. If you’re able to help, even a small donation will go directly toward her medical needs and give her the chance she deserves.

Thank you for always being there when the unexpected happens. 💕

Holly is 5 to 5 1/2 weeks old.

Grief doesn’t follow a calendar, and it doesn’t pause just because the season keeps moving.

Tomorrow’s episode of our podcast is a gentle, honest conversation with licensed clinical social worker and pet loss expert Nancy Gordon about pet loss, anticipatory grief, and how to move through this time without pressure to “do it right” or hold it together.

No fixing. No platitudes. Just understanding and support.

About Starlight Outreach and Rescue

Starlight Outreach and Rescue supports Houston-area shelters to provide better quality of life for stray and abandoned animals by providing medical attention beyond the scope/capabilities of the facilities, and short and long-term fostering and rescue services for animals that need medical or other special care.

S.O.A.R. also rescues animals directly from the community, housing adoptable animals as well as permanent residents at its 7-acre “rescue ranch” outside of Houston, Texas.

The organization is named in honor of Emma Starlight Hyde who was just 14 years old when she passed away unexpectedly in October 2017. Emma and her mom Shelley, with the support of their family, volunteered at shelter events, such as the annual Shelter Dog Birthday Party, and fostered baby kittens to ensure they received proper socialization and feeding during the weaning period.
