We always have a full house. We wouldn't know what to do if dog hair weren't part of our lives. At one point, we had nine total dogs at our house (for a short time). We do NOT recommend it. 😂 But, for the most part, we have stayed around the number six. It's a lot of work, but we always want to have a foster or two we can help.
Most recently, Yoshi, from City of Hot Springs Animal Services caught our eyes with the striking resemblance he bore to Middy, a scared but loving boy we fostered for six months in 23-24.
Yoshi was terrified, timid, passive, and just like Middy, wouldn't come out of the back portion of his kennel at the facility. The amazing volunteers took notice and began working with him, trying to gain his trust. He even began staying behind the front desk so he would have human contact.
A month ago, I decided he needed to meet all of our crew and learn to dog, whether he agreed with it or not. First, I called the hubs, and he agreed as long as it was "short term" 😉..so, on April 4th, Yoshi came to "learn how to dog". We quickly found that other dogs made him happy, and he quickly learned, quickly loved, and began trusting us as each day passed.
Somewhere along the way, we noticed he was much like another dog.... Leo. 💔
He held the same gentle, yet playfulness in his soul. He is scared of odd things, the wind, and objects that are seemingly out of place than their normal place. He somehow found his way to our bed and then someone's heart.
Each day he went to work with me, thinking he would have a good application. We received confirmation that a family wanted him, so in anticipation, we (the rescue, LeeAnn's Rescue Continuing Leo's Legacy) had him fixed, vaccinated, and got him his Proheart 6 shot. The application looked great, but began to fall apart when references were called. That was scary as we want our dogs to succeed and have amazing families who also care and provide all the needed veterinarian care and love they deserve.
Another week and a half passed and we received yet another application, it was the Farmer family. The application was perfect. We took Yoshi to the meet and greet and things went well. Instead of joy, we felt sadness as he had grabbed a part of our hearts.
We told the potential adopters we were going to discuss letting him leave the next day. That night sadness hit our hearts and we thought of how much Yoshi had impacted us and how similar he was to our Leo. It was at that moment, we knew, we couldn't let him leave.
He is now be part of our home and will help with our new scared fosters, so they can learn from him. He still has so much to learn and is still scared and timid, but each day he becomes a little bit more brave!
It all ended up working out because the Farmers decided to save Cheddar and now we have added Yoshi, who is now Zeke!
Welcome to the "Z" household Zeke! We love your quirky ways, how you are so pawsy and how you love everyone you meet now.
