This is a looonnnnggg video y’all.

The purpose of showing this in its entirety is to tell you one thing… SLOW DOWN. My biggest piece of training advice is just that, Slow everything down.

This is raw footage of me unloading 7 dogs to take them out for a pack hike. This is the first time I’ve taken this many at once. And there is a lot going on here that I’m not going to unpack. I’ll just say I know these dogs & their skill levels pretty dang well.

I get a lot of questions about how do you control that many dogs at one time & the answer (as kooky as it might sound) is with my energy. I’m calm & it’s a concerted effort to be calm. I don’t (most of the time🤪) overreact.

So… slow down, breathe, walk slower, be intentional. Your dog will get more from slowing down than they will from 5 hours of running full tilt.

Urban Gypsy Dog Academy – Foundations Course

I’m excited to officially open registration for the first Urban Gypsy Dog Academy Foundations Class!

This is a 6-week small group training course designed to help dogs build the everyday skills that make life easier and more enjoyable for both dog and owner.

Over the 6 weeks we’ll focus on:

• Loose leash walking
• Impulse control
• Jumping and polite greetings
• Basic obedience (sit, down, recall, place)
• Building focus and engagement around distractions

Saturdays, May 2 – June 6
10:00 AM
Small group format with limited spots so everyone gets individual coaching

This class is ideal for dogs who need clearer structure, better manners, and help learning how to stay calm and responsive in the real world.

If you’d like to reserve a spot or have questions about whether your dog is a good fit, send me a message and I’ll send you the registration details.

Spots are limited and I expect this class to fill quickly!

Meet Zoe 🤍

This video may look quiet — but there’s a lot happening here.

Zoe is absolutely terrified. Of me. Of the situation. Of everything. You can see her tremble, back away, and whine, hoping someone familiar will come rescue her.

And what am I doing?

Very little.

I’m sitting with her. I’m calm. I’m present. I’m not asking anything of her.

When she tries to retreat, I gently guide her closer and then immediately release the leash — not to trap her, but to communicate something important:
You’re safe here. I’m not going to chase you. And I’m not going to leave you either.

Fear thrives in chaos and escape. Confidence grows in stillness.

Right now, Zoe isn’t ready for obedience, movement, or even treats. She’s too scared to take food — which tells me exactly where her nervous system is. So instead of pushing her forward, we’re slowing everything way down.

My plan for the next week is simple:
I’ll come to her home and spend about 20 minutes at a time just sitting with her. No pressure. No expectations. Just consistency, calm leadership, and space for her to process.

I’ll place treats nearby — not to lure her, but to give her the option to get curious when she’s ready. Even a sniff is a win right now.

This is the beginning of Zoe’s journey.
Not forcing confidence.
Not avoiding fear.
But gently teaching her that she can sit in discomfort, survive it, and slowly work her way through it. That’s where the magic happens.

I’ll be sharing her progress as we go 🤍

I get a lot of questions about how Adventure Club works, so I wanted to share this.

Adventure Club is a guided, structured outdoor experience designed to give dogs a lot of fun—without chaos.

Here’s what’s important to know:

• Most dogs start on long lines
• Off-leash freedom is built gradually and safely
• Some dogs progress quickly, others take more time—and that’s okay
• Safety, structure, and calm always come before freedom

Adventure Club isn’t about perfection. None of these dogs are perfect. (Even mine😝) As long as your dog has some key elements, which I discuss below, the other skills can be taught. The result for you will be a calmer, more content companion. You’ll also be able to check that mom/dad guilt at the door!

What I look for in a dog starting out:

• Social with dogs & people
• Food motivated
• Over 2 years old

Adventure Club is intentionally limited, and I’m currently gathering interest as the program grows.

If you’re curious whether it could be a good fit for your dog, feel free to reach out or join the interest list.
