What happens when your clients move 1,000+ miles away?

Apparently… The Pet Nanny follows them. 😂✈️🐾

These sweet kitties originally became clients of mine through Rover when their family split their time between Elmira and Florida. The cats traveled with them, so for about six months of each year, I had the privilege of being their Pet Nanny. 🐱❤️

Over time, I got to know their personalities, routines, medications, and all the little things that make caring for someone else's babies so much more than simply putting down food and scooping a litter box.

Last winter, their family made Florida their permanent home which meant I had to say goodbye to some very special clients.

Or so I thought. 😂

When their family began planning another trip, they realized they wanted the same kind of care their cats had always received from me. So they asked if I would be willing to come to Florida to care for them.

And on Monday, that's exactly where The Pet Nanny is headed! ✈️🌴🐱

I'll be spending two weeks with some familiar furry faces while their family travels, and I couldn't be more excited to see them again.

There are a lot of things I'm proud of as I've grown Chemung Pet Nanny, but the relationships I've built with my clients, both human and furry, will always be at the top of that list.

Having a family move all the way to Florida and still trust me enough to bring me there to care for their babies is something pretty special. 🥹❤️

Turns out The Pet Nanny's service area occasionally extends a little farther than Chemung County. 😂✈️🐾

🐱 Fun fact: Cats can recognize their own names… they just sometimes choose to ignore you. 😂

Studies have found that cats can distinguish their names from other similar-sounding words Which means when you’ve called them four times and they haven’t even bothered to look at you…

They may not be confused.

They may simply have decided your request has been denied. 😭😂

Apparently Maisie’s mom wasn’t kidding when she told me her favorite movie is The Lion King. 😂🦁

Of course I had to put it on for her… and LOOK AT HER. 😭😂 Girl is not casually watching she is following the plot. Fully focused. Do not disturb.

I’m pretty sure if I talked during an important scene, I’d be asked to leave. 😂🐾📺

Apparently “professional pet sitter” is the polite way of saying:

I walk into people’s houses and immediately start asking things like…

“Did you poop?”
“Why is that wet?”
“What are you eating?!”
“GET THAT OUT OF YOUR MOUTH.”
“Where’s your brother?”
“And why are you looking at me like that?”

Then I send your parents a cute picture like everything was completely normal. 😂🐾

When you’re staying at The Pet Nanny’s house and realize the accommodations are actually pretty decent. 😂🐾

Kona & Baehr are currently taking full advantage of their stay. Couch claimed, blankets secured, legs dangling, and absolutely ZERO responsibilities. 😂❤️

Boarding in my home means getting to settle in, get comfy, and be part of the household while your family is away.

I’d say these two have officially made themselves at home. 🥰🐶

🐾 Pet Sitter Tip: Your pet may act completely different when you’re away and that’s normal!

One thing I’ve learned as a professional pet sitter is that pets don’t always follow their usual routine once their person leaves.

A dog who normally devours dinner might need a little encouragement. A social cat might spend the first visit hiding. A pet who usually sleeps in one spot might suddenly choose another.

That’s why I pay attention to more than just whether the food bowl is full. 👀

I’m watching things like:
🐾 Are they eating and drinking normally?
🐾 Are bathroom habits normal?
🐾 Is their energy level changing?
🐾 Are they becoming more comfortable with each visit?
🐾 Is there anything unusual compared with previous visits?

Pet sitting is a lot more than feeding, potty breaks, and scooping litter. A big part of the job is knowing what to watch for when their humans aren’t there to see it. ❤️

Every pet has their own version of “normal,” and getting to know that is one of my favorite parts of what I do.

A little moment from this morning that I just had to share. ❤️

Yesterday I returned a missed call from someone looking for very last-minute care for his two dogs while his family visited Watkins Glen today. I checked my schedule, realized I could make it work, and we arranged for them to stay with me for the day.

This morning he showed up at the scheduled time — but without the dogs! Their plans had changed and the dogs weren't coming after all.

But he still drove over just to hand me $50 and thank me for returning his call and being willing to give them an option when they needed one.

Completely unexpected and completely unnecessary, but so incredibly appreciated.

Running a small business has a way of giving you these little moments that stick with you. Sometimes simply answering the call, finding a way to help, and giving someone one less thing to worry about means more than you realize. 🐾❤️

After a lengthy board meeting, the dogs and cats have reached a unanimous decision:

🐶 Every delivery driver is suspicious.
🐱 The bathroom is now a group activity.
🐶 The mail carrier remains highly questionable.
🐱 Your laptop is the warmest bed in the house.
🐶 Cheese is a basic right.
🐱 Anything on a shelf belongs on the floor.

We don't make the rules... we just care for the adorable little executives. 😂❤️
