Livin’ on the Ledge Mondio

During the month of June, we’ll be sharing “Meet the Goonies of Livin on the Ledge” posts. Club members were given a set of questions to answer, knowing the answers would be shared in their own words.

First up is David of team Gunner!

1. What do you consider to be your profession / career? Explain what you do for work.

I've been in the cyber security field for the last 20 years. I work for a cyber security consulting company and my focus is application security and artificial intelligence.

My wife Rebekah and I also started a pet walking, sitting, and in-home boarding small business last year. She has been amazing at running it and caring for our clients dogs as well!

2. What dogs do you have and why do you have the dogs you do?

We have 5 dogs total, 3 of them are pet dogs (Coco, Z, and Shadow). Gunner is our 8 month old puppy that is our sport dog that we are training with for Mondioring. My wife Rebekah, just got an English Labrador puppy named Mochi that is 12 weeks old and she is trying to figure out what sport to do with her (we are trying to persuade her to do mondioring with Mochi as well).

3. What do you like to do when you’re not doing dogs?

Between our 4 kids, 5 dogs, a demanding career, and a small business. There just isn't that much time in the day to do much else.

4. What brought you to MondioRing?

When we decided to get Gunner, we researched different dog sports to look into training him and us in. We originally thought we wanted to go the IGP route with him. Until Rebecca and Allison mentioned Mondioring to us. At the time we had never heard of it but spent a couple of days reading and watching videos of trials. Honestly the videos sold us and we decided to begin learning and training in the sport.

5. Share something about you that no one would expect to hear.

I try to begin my day with reading and end my day with reading. Also, my 4:30am coffee time is my quiet reflection time of my day.

David has jumped headfirst into this Mondio thing from day one. And we hope his wife Rebekah will too with her new pup! The entire Bressler family has already been a huge help to the Club since they joined just a couple months ago.

Huge welcome to our newest Club member Andrew Faint!!

Andrew has been decoying for our group for a few years now as he’s been learning the ways and plays of MondioRing. He’s got natural talent, and is already a certified trial helper in IGP. He competes in IGP with his personal dog Arlo, but has been enjoying developing Ring skills, thanks to coaching from Nick and Joel. We have been dying for him to come over to our side!!

He graciously accepted the invitation to join the Club as an honorary member and will be working toward trial decoy certification in our sport. We are always grateful for his safe and consistent catches, sideline jokes, and wish he could join us for every training day!

Kristina, Ryka’s mom, specializes in one on one behavioral grooming and training support for dogs who may struggle with handling, grooming, veterinary care restraint, or reactivity. “My goal is to create a safer, more positive experience for both dogs and their owners through clear communication, patience, and individualized care. I’m especially passionate about helping difficult dogs, as well as our elderly canine friends who may need a little extra time, care and support during their spa days.”

Aaannd finally 🥁 🥁 🥁
Team Bear 🐻

Bruce met Nick and Rebecca when he really needed to rein Bear in and find a job for this big guy. Mondio has been a really fun way to add control and build a great relationship with him. I think Bear’s all time favorite thing to do is see Nick Alan and Joel Clercq.
He is a big guy with a big presence when he enters a room. He will often hold you down with his giant head for affection and he loves to share a good leg hug and while carrying his ball. He enjoys road trips with his dad in the truck, swimming in the Lost River, and carrying around tree sized logs.

Bear has come a llooong way since we met Bruce, and Mondio has been a wonderfully healthy thing for him. Bear’s auntie Kristina has been handling him at training for awhile and doing most of the homework. The ever-busy Bruce, though often absent on training days, has been a HUGE force and contributor to building our field. Right down to the road getting to it.

The plan is for Kristina and Bear to show at our September trial and then the Big Apple trial for the MR1. We have much work to do, but this boy is a fun one to follow 🤩

🧡 Evie Knievel 🧡
She’s a 5.5 mos old Rottweiler bred by WllsLand Rottweilers (Laura Wells & Jody Crim)

Evie started her Mondioring training almost immediately upon arrival to Alison’s home at just 8 weeks of age. While Alison and Evie have a ways to go, she’s already worked with Rebecca, Joel and Nick; she seems to love it so far! It’s very difficult to find a Rottweiler who can handle pressure these days but we are hoping that Evie is up for the challenge! Evie is also dabbling in conformation; scent work, dock diving and whatever trouble she and Alison can get into! Big plans are in store for this phenomenal pup!

We love this spicy lil’ snugga-savage! 🧡 🧡 🧡 Excited to see her grow up and share in all the things she will do!
