☀️ Brighter Days Ahead: Midnight's Story 🌘
Midnight was adopted from Treasured Friends when he was a young kitten. About a year later, he was privately rehomed. Somehow somewhere along the way, Midnight ended up abandoned and living on the streets.
Eventually, a kind stranger began caring for him and brought him to Fried’s Cat Shelter through their TNR program, which is how Midnight ultimately found his way back to us. What nobody realized at first was that he had been living with a tail injury that had likely happened while he was fending for himself outside. The damage was not visible on the outside, but had been silently worsening until one night it suddenly ruptured.
Midnight has now undergone tail amputation surgery and is thankfully on the mend!
What makes this situation especially heartbreaking is that it never should have happened. We want to gently remind everyone that this is exactly why our adoption contract asks that our cats be returned to us if you can no longer keep them. We understand that life happens and, unfortunately, sometimes rehoming becomes necessary. However, when pets are passed from home to home privately, we lose the ability to ensure they stay safe, monitored, and properly cared for.
It truly took a village of people caring and working together to help get Midnight back to safety. We'd like to thank:
- Jennifer, who helped Midnight and showed him kindness when he suddenly appeared on her property
- Fried's Cat Shelter for caring for him and working with us to bring him back into our rescue
- Midnight's original adopter for immediately reaching out to us after being notified that he had been found
- The volunteers who helped arrange his transportation, as well as those who have been fostering/caring for him during this time
- Coyne Veterinary Center for performing Midnight’s tail amputation surgery and helping get him on the road to recovery
