An estimated 328,000 to 331,000 children are in the US foster care system. The average age of a child in the system is 8 years old, with children ages 1 to 5 making up nearly 29% of the population.

Neglect accounts for roughly 62% to 76% of placements, while parental substance drug abuse contributes to about 33% to 38% of cases.

Approximately 15,000 to 20,000 youth age out of the foster care system every year without finding a permanent home or family.

Youth who age out face severe systemic hurtles; and estimated 20% experience immediate homelessness at age 18, and roughly 25% to 33% of the overall adult homelessness population report a history in foster care.

Between 19% and 40% of homeless and runaway youth are victims of human trafficking. Roughly 20% (1 in 5 homeless youth) experience human trafficking with includes both s*x & labor trafficking.

The issues begin at home, then trickle down. The system forgets about the teens who don’t get a family, they end up on the streets & fall victim to these heinous traffickers.

Let’s get real for a second, talk about things that make us uncomfortable, that we don’t want to acknowledge is actually happening because how could somebody do this to children?

National data shows about 5.3% to 6% of US children experience foster care placement at some point during childhood, while roughly 700,000 are confirmed victims of abuse or neglect annually.

Neglect is the primary reason for removal from the home, accounting for 55% of cases, followed by caretaker drug abuse (29%), & physical abuse (13%).

Research shows that children placed in the foster care system face a heightened risk of subsequent maltreatment, with estimates suggesting up to 40% experience some form of abuse while in care.

The system is meant to PROTECT children, take care of them, but more times than not children are harmed in some form by the people in the system who are supposed to be protecting them. We see it all the time.

HEALING starts at HOME. Parents who are not taking care of themselves cannot take care of children & they end up in the system.

This is real. Numbers don’t lie. We work with these children all the time. Their stories are unimaginable.

This year, many of the families we serve have needed more than equine therapy—they’ve needed a safe place to call home. In response, we launched the Spirit Led Life Women’s Sanctuary, where we are currently providing safe housing for 3 women and 13 children as they rebuild their lives after abuse and trauma.

Our vision is to expand by building additional tiny homes so we can rescue, restore, and support even more women and children on their journey toward healing and freedom.

Safe housing is so much more than shelter—it is the tangible expression of God’s love in action. Throughout Scripture, God calls His people to protect the vulnerable, defend the oppressed, and care for those who have been harmed, especially the widow and the orphan. For survivors of abuse and human trafficking, escaping danger is only the first step. Without a safe place to heal, many face the heartbreaking reality of returning to the very circumstances they fought so hard to escape.

A safe home provides more than four walls and a roof. It offers refuge, peace, dignity, and the security needed for true healing to begin. It becomes a place where survivors can encounter hope, receive compassionate support, rediscover their God-given identity, and rebuild their lives in faith, freedom, and wholeness.

Our prayer is that Spirit Led Life Women’s Sanctuary will continue to be a refuge for those seeking freedom and a reflection of Christ’s unwavering love to every woman and child who walks through our doors.

A strong woman isn’t loud in her strength; she’s steady, unshakeable, and quietly fierce. Her power lies in the battles she fights that no one knows about, the tears she dries in private, and the dreams she refuses to let die. Strength does always roar; sometimes is whispers “Keep Going”.

Watching Jodi Amos work with this young lady was incredible. She was terrified of the horses at first, didn’t want anything to do with them. But, she didn’t give up, and on the final day of camp, she got on a horse. She did the hard thing, had the hard talks, and in the end she prevailed. We are so proud of her!

This is why we do what we do, and why we love it.
