🎆 Fireworks may be fun for us, but they can be terrifying for our pets. 🐾
Every year, veterinary clinics and animal shelters see an increase in lost pets around the Fourth of July because frightened animals panic and try to escape.
Here are a few ways you can help keep your furry family members safe:
🇺🇸 Keep pets indoors before fireworks begin. Don’t wait until they’re already frightened to bring them inside.
🏡 Create a safe, quiet space with their favorite blanket, bed, or toys where they can retreat and feel secure.
🎵 Turn on a TV, fan, or calming music to help drown out the sounds of fireworks.
🚪 Double-check that all doors, windows, and gates are secure. Even pets who have never run away can bolt when they’re scared.
🏷️ Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with current ID tags and that their microchip information is up to date—just in case.
💊 If your pet has a history of severe anxiety during fireworks, don’t wait until July 3rd. Contact your veterinarian now to discuss safe medication or anxiety management options. Many medications need to be started ahead of time, and appointments can fill up quickly.
❤️ A little preparation now can make a world of difference for your pet.
Let’s work together to keep every pet safe, calm, and home where they belong this Fourth of July. 🇺🇸🐶🐱
