The first picture is of Lexi when I first met her. The last picture is her in Lowe’s tonight! She’s gotten So big! And she’s growing into an awesome dog!

No dog is too old to train! Training doesn’t have to be fancy heel or command work either. It can be as simple as just hanging out with your dog in the yard and rewarding for them coming when called. Chori is getting to enjoy the enrichment of being outside and sniffing. But he’s also learning the rules of he has to come when called!

Training doesn’t have to be this intense activity,! You can just have fun and hangout with your dog. I’m marking and rewarding the things that I like Chori doing. Remember, your words/commands are so powerful. So always make sure you back them up with meaning! “Yes”= I like what you are doing. “Yes”= reward always! Never lie to your dog with words!

Neyland working on “place” in public for the first time.
This post is in no way meant to make me look good as a trainer. But, instead, to highlight the success of a dog, who to many may not think it’s such a big deal. But to me, what Neyland did tonight is incredible!
This is what I mean when I say “I don’t train dogs to be obedient for the sake of them being obedient. I train them to make the right choice.”
Neyland had her first training session in a brand new place (Home Depot). Tonight, I put her to the test and she gave me everything she had and then some.
If you watch Neyland: she is on “place”. I start to walk away from her ,and she looks like she’s about to get up, but then she stops herself. I immediately “release“ her. This is exactly what I want to see dogs do: make the right choice!
I’m not rewarding her for almost getting up. I’m rewarding her for making the right choice. To stop herself from leaving “place” without hearing me “release” her first. She chose to stop herself and wait for me to “release” her. I’m rewarding my dogs for the right choices they make every time. Big or small, it doesn’t matter to me. What matters is that I see them starting to grow in their independence and think for themselves. So in this moment with Neyland, I made it a huge party 🎉
