Bad weather days don’t have to mean bored, restless dogs. Lick mats are one of my favorite ways to add calm, low-arousal enrichment when getting outside feels a little harder. The repetitive licking can help dogs relax and settle, making them a great option during crate time, after training sessions, or when you just need your dog to decompress while you work or unwind at home.

Try spreading plain yogurt, pumpkin, soaked kibble, or wet food and freezing it to make the activity last longer. Just remember, enrichment tools like lick mats are meant to support your dog, not replace real exercise, training, or outdoor adventures. Even on snowy or rainy days, your dog still needs movement, structure, and time outside when it’s safe to do so.

Use them thoughtfully, keep expectations realistic, and you’ll have a happier, more balanced pup no matter what the weather is doing outside.

A crate is one of the best tools for potty training, preventing mischief, and helping dogs gain healthy independence. Safe space, calm mind, happy pup 🐾

Puppy socialization isn’t just about meeting other dogs. It’s about helping your puppy feel safe, confident, and neutral in the world around them. Positive exposure to new sights, sounds, people, places, and surfaces during those early months builds resilience and prevents fear later in life. Think quality experiences, not overwhelming ones. A well-socialized puppy grows into a calmer, braver, more adaptable dog 🐾✨

🐾Muzzles are a tool for freedom 🐾
When properly fitted and positively conditioned, muzzles allow dogs to keep training, exploring, and going on adventures while keeping everyone safe. Safety builds confidence, and confidence opens the door to more opportunities—not fewer.

E-collars are often misunderstood, but when used appropriately and intentionally, they can be an incredible training tool.

At High Peaks K9, we use e-collars as a communication tool—not punishment—and only rely on high-quality, reliable, and safe e-collars from . With proper education and timing, they create clarity, confidence, and more freedom for dogs.

Off-leash freedom requires real-world reliability.
When used correctly, e-collars provide clear, consistent communication at a distance, helping dogs stay responsive around distractions, wildlife, and changing environments. They’re not about punishment; they’re about safety, clarity, and giving dogs the freedom to explore confidently.

🐾Attention Reactive Dog Owners 🐾

Your reactive dog deserves to live an adventurous life! With a plan, structure, and patience, you can take your reactive dog on any adventure.

Decompression in nature is a great way to help improve your reactive dog’s behavior.

🐾🚨Emergency Down = a lifesaving skill🚨🐾

Teaching your dog a solid down on cue, especially from a distance can stop them in their tracks when it matters most: a car, wildlife, an open gate, or an unexpected distraction. Distance practice builds clarity, reliability, and impulse control so your dog can respond anytime, anywhere—not just right next to you.

Train it before you need it. Your dog’s safety depends on it.

Socialization is often misunderstood as dogs needing to meet everyone or play with every dog, but that’s not the goal. 🐾

True socialization teaches dogs to stay calm and confident around new people, places, and situations, so they can move through everyday life with ease.
