Most know that raising livestock isn’t for the faint of heart.
Sure sometimes it’s cute babies, sweet mommas, smooth deliveries, good morning greetings from all the sows, pigs you raised winning banners.
But it’s also, staying up for 3 nights in a row waiting on a sow to farrow, not being able to sleep after she has them because you just don’t think something right, mommas laying on babies, stillborns, babies that come out deformed, and trying to teach 6 piglets at 48 hours old how to nurse from a bottle because your gut feeling was right and your momma went septic and passed away over night.
The saying blood, sweat and tears isn’t just a metaphor. We love our sows just about as much as our pets. We all know it happens, it’s part of the game. But dang does it suck when it happens.
We have some very generous families that not only have helped with advice but are going to see if we can give these babies a fighting chance by adopting them on to one of their sows. Please say a prayer for these six little fighters! We will hopefully keep everyone updated on their progress.
