First of all, we want to say the amount of overwhelming support and selflessness from our famlies, local community and the show pig community has been truly unbelievable. We have some big plans this year so stay tuned!

In some lighter news! If y’all remember back to this summer we had a litter of piglets in August. Unfortunately luck was not on our side that litter either, we lost our sweet momma Lola, and unfortunately lost 10 of her babies. But our amazing friends in Oklahoma tried their hearts out to save at least one baby from Lola so we didn’t lose her lineage completely. They were successful in saving two gilts, 1-1 and 1-2. (If anyone knows me I try my hardest to name all my sows an L name) they ended up naming them Lucky and Loretta, and have been showing them this winter!

This is Lucky, who has been kicking butt for her showman! She will rejoin our herd once he is done showing her, to keep a piece of our Lola girl. I will try to update with some more pictures as these guys get ready for OYE! Good luck guys!!

Now that the smoke has settled and the shock has worn off… we are asking for some prayers.

Last night or sometime this morning our pig barn caught fire. This is one of those deals you never expect it to happen to you. We lost both sows and their litters we had this year. I’m a big believer of everything happens for a reason, we may not know the reason right now, but this is only apart of our story not the end. We will come back stronger.

I’m a strong believer of prayer and how it helps overcome the greatest of lows. We would greatly appreciate all of your prayers.

Update on the little fighters!

We are down to 5 unfortunately. But they are doing well this morning! A few temporary mommas took them fine and they are nursing! It’s still early, but we thank the lord that he has given them strength and another chance.

We want to say a big thank you to a few families that have generously helped us through this crazy situation!

•The Price family, with P5 showpigs. This is the wonderful family that graciously agreed to adopt our babies on to a couple of their sows. We can not express our gratitude enough.

•The McMurtrey’s, this wouldn’t have been possible without your selfless support, in driving up here picking them up and making the connection with the prices. You guys are such a wonderful family and I’m so glad Lola connected us.

•The Hiltner’s, with Hiltner livestock. Lastly but certainly not least, we want to thank Tyler and Breckyn for all of your advice. You are always there when we have questions or when we need help, we appreciate you guys more than you know!

Most know that raising livestock isn’t for the faint of heart.

Sure sometimes it’s cute babies, sweet mommas, smooth deliveries, good morning greetings from all the sows, pigs you raised winning banners.

But it’s also, staying up for 3 nights in a row waiting on a sow to farrow, not being able to sleep after she has them because you just don’t think something right, mommas laying on babies, stillborns, babies that come out deformed, and trying to teach 6 piglets at 48 hours old how to nurse from a bottle because your gut feeling was right and your momma went septic and passed away over night.

The saying blood, sweat and tears isn’t just a metaphor. We love our sows just about as much as our pets. We all know it happens, it’s part of the game. But dang does it suck when it happens.

We have some very generous families that not only have helped with advice but are going to see if we can give these babies a fighting chance by adopting them on to one of their sows. Please say a prayer for these six little fighters! We will hopefully keep everyone updated on their progress.

After an exhausting day, we are all feeling worn out.

Hoyt Mcmurtrey was spot on. She started at 10:30am and ended at 7pm. Delivered twelve large-boned piglets, although sadly only six survived. However, we choose to focus on the positive that we have 6 healthy babies!

Congratulations to Hoyt on winning the giveaway! (For those who are unaware, we purchased Lola from Hoyt earlier this year. He was her showman. Pretty cool if you ask us!)

Edit: Hoyt guessed 8/4 12 piglets at 6:30 pm.
