Thank you Bethany Church of the Nazarene for your kitchen, the new sink sprayer, and lettuce from your garden, Country Gourmet at the Market and Panera Bread for your food donations, everyone who picked up donations, everyone who brought prepared food, and to my volunteers Jerry, Sue, Alexa, Eric, Bob, Danielle, Chelsea, Carol, Thomas and Kaitie. Who did I forget? My memory bank is very full and I don't want to forget anyone.

We are consistently serving more and more people every week. I asked my volunteers how many people they thought we served at the first stop. They guessed about a hundred. Our sandwiches usually don't run out until the end of the last stop but we ran out before the end of our first stop this time. We need to up our sandwich game.

Our needs:
Snacks, either individual or bulk that we can portion out.
Drinks, either single serve bottles or gallons/2 liter bottles that we can pour into cups.
Cases of water, at least 3 40 packs per week.
Food donations, either ingredients or prepared food.
Men's work boots! We serve at a center where men are trying to get employment and this is a big need. Steel toe or not, either is greatly appreciated.

We celebrated Gary's birthday with his favorite pineapple upside down cake and he kept half of one cake for himself and dished out the rest. I forgot to mention last Tuesday that we celebrated E's birthday a few days late last week with assorted cheesecake slices and Teardrop's birthday a little early with a Reese's chocolate peanut butter cake.

Please share our posts! If you have any interest in volunteering or donating, please feel free to ask questions. We've come a long way from bagged lunches for twenty people five and a half years ago to now and we hope to be able to continue matching the need. We exist FOR our differently sheltered friends and BECAUSE OF big hearted people who give of themselves so that we can continue providing for them.

Tents are on our Amazon wish list. We have three requests for tents.

"God will provide" has been my mantra. We needed salad and the gentlemen who tends the church's garden asked if I could use some lettuce. He didn't even know we needed salad stuff. He went right out and picked it. I found some cucumbers in the fridge and some shredded cheese and then Marjorie showed up with tomatoes! Thank you, God!

Thinking of the time we decorated his spot for Christmas and he came along with us Christmas Day to help serve. Remembering hours of conversation at Texas Roadhouse right after he got housed. Fitting furniture into vehicles that shouldn't have been able to hold furniture to take it to him. Rest easy, Harry.

Pepperoni pizza fries
Italian pasta salad
Coleslaw
Spaghetti with chicken
Beef stroganoff with egg noodles

Hash brown casserole
(We love our casseroles)
Mac and cheese
Some gorgeous salads

Meatball subs with gooey cheese
Macaroni goop!
Sandwiches, snacks, desserts and drinks
And some things I forgot.
What can I say? Don't get old.

Thank you Country Gourmet at the Market and Panera Bread and everyone who brought prepared dishes, Bethany Church of the Nazarene for your kitchen and the new faucet, the folks who picked up donations this week, the folks who dropped off food items and non-food items, and to my lovely assistants: Jerry, Sue, Trish, Kaitie, Kelly, Tammy, and Ashley.

Once again, I have to say that I'm blown away by the support during my dad's hospitalization, all the people who came together to bring a dish or a dessert or pick the salad out of your garden. People showed up with turkeys and hams and well wishes and hugs. Thank you again.

We need cases of water! $4 for 40 bottles at Costco or Sam's Club. This is a biggie for me because I can't lift those especially well anymore! Again, don't get old.

Our second stop is a men's halfway house and these guys are looking for employment and need work boots. Sometimes steel toe, sometimes they don't have to be. If anyone is looking to rehome some work boots, keep us in mind. There were at least half a dozen requests this past weekend for footwear for employment.

We always need AA and AAA batteries. They are a hot ticket item.

We've also had four requests for tents, one for someone who has a bed and needs to sleep on it due to back issues and one for someone who has service animals. Looking for big tents, folks. I added a bunch to the Amazon wish list.

If anyone wants to pitch in via PayPal or venmo for a specific item, just note work boots or water or tents and we'll put your money toward what you choose!

Please pray for our friends in this heat. Most are on stone with no shade and it's got to be miserable. ❤️
Ice pops also welcome! They were gone Sunday before the tables were even set up.

God bless you all.

I'll do my regular thank you post on Tuesday but I had to do this one now.

That guy in the picture is my dad. The little one is my niece.

Dad is my bestie. He's still in the hospital and he'll be there for a bit but that guy is the reason I asked for help this weekend and you guys really stepped up. Thank you all for pouring out your love in the form of food to take some of the pressure off of us this weekend. Usually I spend about 6 hours shopping and prepping on Saturdays. I was in Danville yesterday and got to spend the afternoon and evening with my dad. And it's thanks to you, everyone who pitched in and dropped off a pan of food or came to help.

I said that the only thing I needed to do was go to Restaurant Depot for salad fixings yesterday and someone stepped in and said she would handle it and brought me three large pans of fully prepared salad with greens fresh from her garden plus a gigantic bag of croutons and two big bottles of salad dressing.

We had plenty of food today and I am home. I'll be heading back up to Danville tomorrow to spend more time with my dad. He's having testing done tomorrow. Please keep him in your prayers. ❤️

I know that this is so very last minute, but my weekend took an unexpected turn. An immediate family member is being hospitalized tonight and I will be up north all day tomorrow visiting.

If anyone out there is willing to make a dish for this weekend, I would really appreciate it. It would take the pressure off of me and the kitchen Sunday. Do you have a favorite casserole? Is there something your family always asks you to bring to parties? How about just a vegetable? Anything will do.

Drop off Sunday morning before 1:00 p.m. at 1605 Parkway West. That's Bethany Church of the Nazarene, behind Stauffers of Kissel Hill on Linglestown Road. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Friday check in for volunteers!

Anybody know why I ask for folks to check in on Friday?

It's because, if I don't have enough folks for kitchen prep on Sunday morning, then I have to go into the kitchen on Saturday. If I don't go into the kitchen on Saturday then I work. (I make my own hours.) So, if I decide I don't have enough people on Sunday morning and go into the kitchen on Saturday and then I end up getting enough people on Sunday, then I really didn't need to go into the kitchen on Saturday and I missed out on making money and Mama needs to eat! I understand if you don't always know you're going to be able to make it. Stuff happens! It just makes it easier for me to schedule who's doing what, and when, if I have a good idea on Friday. That being said...

Bob has a graduation to attend!
Alexa will be busy doing a CF walk.
Danielle is in NC.

I got Jerry all day.

Sue 11-5.

Kelly, Tammy and Ashley 1:30 to "close".

Trish 11-2.

Kaitie 11-1.

Who else is coming Sunday?🤔😄

Kitchen prep is 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

We serve from 2:30 until 5:00.

5:30ish we return to the church to unload and clean up. Usually done by about 7:00.

It's a long day. You don't have to do the whole thing. You're welcome to if you want! But if you can't, just tell me when you can come and how long you can stay! ❤️

Thank you to everyone who donates arts and crafts supplies. I had to share this story.

Yesterday, one of our girls grabbed two items from the arts and crafts pile. Later, after they were all gone, another woman showed up and said "oh, where did you get those? Are there any more?"

The first girl said, "no, but here you can have one of mine. We can do them together." ❤️

They love colored pens and pencils, crayons, coloring books, markers, construction paper, glue, notebooks, ink pens...

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our friend and founder, Ross Willard.

Ross was a great advocate for bike safety and ensuring everyone had access to transportation. He was the driving force behind Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg and everyone in the bicycling community will miss him.

Our thoughts are with his wife, family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
