Today is national rescue dog day.
Pono was a rescue dog after the bad fires in Maui that destroyed the city of Lahaina. He was found running down the street dragging a leash with a heavy chain attached to it. He weighed half what he does now. Sometimes he can be a little bit naughty like yesterday when he was able to get into a box of mouse poison, but fortunately good veterinarians saved him and we learned a good lesson about safe storage and how clever he can be. He’s an amazing dog and sending this out so that people know how good it can be to become a dog parent of a rescue animal.

NATIONAL RESCUE DOG DAY (NRDD) is proudly observed annually on MAY 20 to bring awareness to the countless number of amazing dogs in shelters around the country who deserve a second chance at a forever home.
