I crafted these birds to use as reference points when carving urn decoys for your pet.

No two birds are alike. I use pictures of your pet to find their nuance and idiosyncrasies and carve them into each bird. Thus, creating a lasting connection between your pet, the urn and you.

Birds are hand carved with knives and rasps. Hand painted German glass eyes and artist oil paint is used to create an heirloom.

Animals pass too soon but the memories don’t have to. These urns will last for generations as will their spirit.

My urns are crafted out of cedar using drawknives, spokeshaves, wood files and delicate carving knives to create the fair lines of a bird. I prefer hand crafting wood, listening to music or ball game instead of the whirring of grinders and sanders.

This pintail urn is made from 3 pieces of cedar and German glass eyes. Hollowed out with gouges. The dog’s ashes are secured inside the bird. Epoxied together then sealed and waterproofed. It has been constructed for both display and use as a floating decoy.

The species and posture were worked out with the customer. I cleaned and flattened the dog’s name tag from his collar and affixed it with brass screws and a section of the dog’s collar to a curly maple keel. The “D” ring from the collar is used as an attachment point for a cord and lead weight to hold the bird in place when used in the water as a decoy.

Once the carving is sanded and sealed the bird gets a couple of coats of Rustoleum base paint and then multiple coats of artist oils.
