Anything you can do, I can do better….

Alpacas love to play and sometimes roughhouse.

Whether it’s ankle biting or jumping in the water spray, the boys have a good time.

I’m starting a new weaving project and it’s a new pattern too.

There’s some loom prep work to do first, but it will be fun to see the pattern reveal itself once I start weaving.

Today’s weather is perfect!

Bright blue sky, gentle breeze, and warm sunshine.

Ideal conditions for a couple of escorted visits with the herd today. There were many alpaca kisses given, some neck scratches, and Stormy was a total pig (as usual) with the 🥕.

Early mornings in my pajamas is the best time for making spontaneous videos 🤦‍♀️

I learned about dryer balls in 2016 when I was trying to find useful ways to use the alpaca fiber that isn’t good for making yarn. (Not useful because it’s more coarse & has a shorter staple length). This fiber is called 2nds & 3rds.

I was impressed & inspired by the benefits of replacing dryer sheets & fabric softener with a natural & biodegrade product & thought I would give it a try & make my own.

There wasn’t much information on the internet at the time - no YouTube videos like there are now - but I stumbled across a blog post that someone wrote about how they made dryer balls with wool roving & nylon stockings.

The process seemed simple and it was, though I struggled with getting the felting process just right so the dryer balls didn’t fuse with the nylon stockings when I put them through the washer.

Many of the dryer balls I use in my own dryer still have pieces of nylon stuck to them because though they weren’t saleable, I couldn’t bear to throw them out 😄

Over time I tweaked the method I learned to a way that works for me so that the dryer balls are consistently smoooth, seamless and have some squishiness so they are quiet when tumbling.
