In this special issue of Paws and Pens, we explore what Cushing’s disease really is, why symptoms return after vet visits, and how a one-of-a-kind therapeutic care plan brought Angel lasting relief — without endless meds. ✨ What Is Cushing’s Disease?
Cushing’s disease (hyperadrenocorticism) is a hormone disorder caused by excess cortisol in the bloodstream, usually due to a tumor on the pituitary or adrenal gland. It leads to progressive immune suppression and inflammation and is often misdiagnosed or treated only at the surface level.
Symptoms include:
• Excessive thirst and urination
• Hair loss, thinning skin
• Pot-bellied appearance
• Panting, lethargy
• Chronic skin infections and hot spots

🩺 Traditional Treatment vs. True Healing
Angel, Debbie V.’s sweet companion, had been through multiple vet appointments, steroid injections, antibiotics, and topical meds. None of it lasted. Every time one symptom faded, another came back. She was oozing, inflamed, itchy, and exhausted.
That’s when I created a 1.5-week personalized therapeutic plan — and the results were life-changing. Angel hasn’t had a single flare-up in over six months.
My healing plan included:
• 🌊 Thera-Clean® microbubble therapy to detox and calm the skin
• 🛁 Custom medicated and salt baths tailored for skin barrier repair
• 🌿 Topical applications including:
• Medical-grade manuka honey
• Cold-pressed antibacterial coconut oil
• Pure aloe vera
• Diluted tea tree oil
• 👂 Ear cleanings and flare prevention care
• 🐾 One-on-one therapeutic handling for compromised dogs

🌱 Diet: The Missing Piece in Cushing’s Recovery
Many flare-ups are food-related. For Angel, a dietary review revealed ingredients that worsened her condition. We recommend:
Avoid:
• Chicken
• Grains (wheat, corn, soy)
• Excess sugars or processed treats
Try instead:
• Fish, lamb, or egg-based proteins
• Fresh-cooked meals or grain-free kibble
• Anti-inflammatory additions: fish oil, blueberries, spinach, turmeric
• Probiotics for gut support
Proper nutrition strengthens the skin, reduces internal inflammation, and supports the work we do topically.
