National Pet Fire Safety Day🚒🧯
Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day, an estimated 40,000 pets die in house fires each year, mostly from smoke inhalation. And pets themselves start over 500 fires annually by accident. Usually by bumping into stoves, knocking over candles, or chewing on electrical cords.
Here’s how you can protect your whole crew:
Pet-proof your home!
- Use flameless candles instead of open flames
- Secure loose wires and cover stove k***s
- Never leave pets unattended around space heaters or fireplaces
Make them part of the plan!
- Keep collars on and leashes near the door for a quick exit
- Practice your escape route with pets so they get used to it
- Assign who grabs which pet so no one gets left behind
Help firefighters help them!
- Put a pet alert window cling by your front door with the number and types of pets inside
- Keep pets near entrances when you’re away so rescuers can find them fast
- Make sure your pet’s microchip and ID tags are up to date
