Here’s to the turtles who’ve stolen our hearts and the ones still on their way.

Another day, another rescue at His and Herps Exotics! 🐢
Meet this impressive common snapping turtle, a species native to much of North America. Snappers are known for their strong jaws, long tails, and defensive temperament — they’re not ideal pets for beginners.

Quick facts:

• They can live 30+ years in captivity.
• Require large aquatic setups with clean water and basking areas.
• Diet includes fish, insects, and leafy greens.
• Always handle with care — their bite strength is no joke!

Providing proper habitat and respect for their wild nature helps ensure these amazing reptiles thrive safely.

What a wonderful day at His and Herps Exotics — we love a happy ending!

Our guest of honor, the one and only George (also known as Hank the tank ), strutted in with his iconic hourglass figure and stole the show. After his grand escape adventure, this 20+ year‑old red‑footed tortoise found his way to us here at H&H, where we made sure he was safe, healthy, and cared for while we searched for his family.

Let me tell you a little about this handsome guy. George has had his dramatic hourglass shape since he was young — an exaggerated, elongated form that can be completely normal in male red‑footed tortoises. After reviewing photos and confirming his identifying features, we were thrilled to determine that this was indeed his family’s long‑lost boy.

Today, George was reunited with his lovely girlfriend Gracie and returned to his home on his very own private island. A true king reclaiming his kingdom.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank‑you to his owner for the generous donation toward the rescue. This work is our passion, and your support helps us continue giving these animals the care and second chances they deserve.

Goodbye, George — thank you for stopping by and sharing your sweet heart with us.
Don’t you just love a happy ending.

Wow — what a wonderful week here at His and Herps Exotics with two new intakes joining us!

🟢 First, meet our newest red‑foot tortoise.
He came in with a noticeably elongated and misshapen shell. While we never cast judgment on previous care, we do like to educate. Shell deformities like this can develop from a variety of factors such as inconsistent humidity, improper diet, or rapid growth during early development. These conditions can cause the shell to grow unevenly or stretch in unusual ways over time. What matters most now is that he’s safe, receiving proper nutrition, and getting the supportive environment he needs moving forward.

🟠 Next, say hello to our spunky little beardie!
He was originally found by a good Samaritan who reached out for help. After intake and a full check‑over, we’re happy to share that he’s doing great. He’s alert, active, and already showing off that classic bearded‑dragon personality.

Both animals are currently in quarantine, as all new arrivals are, to ensure their health and the safety of the rest of our residents. We’re excited to give them the care, stability, and attention they deserve as they settle in.

More updates to come as they progress — thank you for supporting responsible rescue and rehabilitation and adoption
