Coyotes and armadillos deserve compassion too.
Often misunderstood and unfairly villainized, coyotes and armadillos play vital roles in our ecosystems. Coyotes help regulate populations of rodents and small mammals — reducing disease and protecting crops and gardens. Armadillos, nature’s quiet diggers, aerate soil, eat harmful insects like fire ants and beetle larvae, and contribute to a healthier environment with every tunnel they build.
Despite their ecological importance, both species are frequently overlooked — or worse, targeted. In a few states they’re not even allowed to receive care in wildlife rehabilitation settings. Injured or orphaned animals are denied help, not because it can’t be given, but because policy refuses them a chance. That’s not just wrong — it’s heartbreaking.
At our rehab, we believe compassion should be rooted in science and empathy — not fear or outdated stereotypes. We provide care to foxes, raccoons, bobcats, and many others. Coyotes and armadillos deserve that same opportunity to heal and return to the wild where they belong.
