📯🐶🐴 Fun Fact Friday 📯 🐶🐴

🎀 Tail Ribbons 🎀

Some horses have preferences of not being crowded in the hunt field, some are just starting out and need a little extra space to figure everything out. As a way to indicate if a horse has special needs in the hunt field, ribbons can be tied in their tails.

🟢 Green ribbons indicate a horse that is just starting out in the hunt field that may be young and/or unpredictable.

🔴 Red indicates a horse that may kick. This horse might be well-trained, but does not do well being crowded.

🟡 🔵Yellow or Blue indicates a stallion that may need extra space, particularity from mares.

⚪️ White indicates a horse for sale.

⚠️ Always remember to ride with caution. Provide horses with ample space but don’t leave too big of a gap that the field gets broken up or other people’s horses get aggravated wanting to close the gap.

If your horse has special needs or accommodations in the hunt field, be sure to communicate it! 🗣️ Tell the people in front of an behind you. If someone is riding too closely or there is too much of a gap, ask them to correct that politely or ask to move positions in the field.

🚩🚩Hunting Etiquette 🚩🚩

Traditionally when following a fox hunt on horseback, there should be an expectation of order to the field unless otherwise agreed upon. Firstly, the field master is the appointed leader of the field, sets the pace and shall never be passed by a member of the field. Subsequently, the field of riders and mounts shall fall in as follows:

1. Invitation to guests of the hunt if they so desire to ride in front.
2. Landowners
3. Members awarded colors for that specific hunt
4. Members without colors and subscribers
5. Juniors accompanied by adults
6. Green mounts & groom subscribers

🎊 On special occasions like junior meets, juniors may be invited to ride in the front of their respective field. 🎊

Please remember that the order of go within the field is based on more than just experience or who manages get to the front first. If your mount is misbehaving or extremely green which could cause the uncertainty of danger to others, take it upon yourself to move to the back of the field to gain control where there is more room to do so, and to cause the least disruption. As well as if a rider is on a pony or slower mount that leaves big gaps or has trouble keeping up, please be courteous and ride behind as to not hold others up or cause anxiety in the mounts following. Riders may also converse with one another when starting out, agree on an order that keeps all going smoothly, and kindly ask to pass at an appropriate time & place if needed.
