We are currently looking for barn help, but are flexible on days/shifts that are needed for someone who can self regulate, and complete tasks thoroughly. We are located in Hamilton VA

Not many stalls, but we are a fast paced barn that requires someone who can pick up on things quickly, or who is great at a routine.

Looking for either part time feeders, or feeding and stall cleaning.

Feeding will include making feed, feeding, watering, giving hay to all horses inside and out. Turning out and bringing in as well as fly spraying/blanketing. There will also be general cleaning up after yourself. Horse knowledge is requested for this position, as basic horse common sense is needed.

Stall cleaner and general maintenance person needed as well, there are 8 stalls, 4 are broodmare and 4 are large 14x14 stalls. Cleaning buckets, thoroughly cleaning the stalls, replacing bedding, cleaning of barn and refilling water/hay nets. Cleaning aisle/barn and ect. Experience is not necessary, as training can happen (pay will be dependent upon experience but will increase with ability)

There is PLENTY of extra work, and help needed. Can be done in exchange for board, lessons, horse lease, and/or possible rent (apartment on site).

Allowing a horse to disrespect your personal space is not kind or fair to anyone.
I do not enjoy, using harsh disciplinary action, but I’m also not going to get hurt- I will use any, and all means necessary to keep a horse from running me over…  so if we are in a setting, where a horse is spooky, or overwhelmed by all the other horses, and I am in a position where it is my job to keep everyone safe, I often times have to be way more harsh then I want to. Too often I have been in the position where I can tell the owner is not quick enough or athletic enough or skilled enough to protect their own space, with a horse who clearly doesn’t already understand that they are not supposed to jump on top of humans….  In the first 20 minutes of a clinic is a sh*tty time for a horse to have to learn that lesson, and the first 30 seconds of me meeting a new horse is a sh*tty time for me to have to teach it.  But in that moment, that’s my job. I’m not gonna let the 60 year old woman get run over and injured. And I’m not gonna let that horse spend its entire day emotionally distraught, because there are fuzzy boundaries and zero leader ship, and too much stimulus for him to handle on his own.  I can typically get horses quiet and trusting pretty quick, but sometimes the beginning isn’t pretty. And I can only hope that the owners follow through so that any discipline i deliver has lifetime benefits instead of one day worth of benefits. But of course, old habits are hard to break in new skills take a while to learn.

So this is what I absolutely beg of horse owners:
▪️ On the ground, learn how to stop and back up your horse without pulling on the lead rope.
- use body language
- Use a flag or a stick or the tail of the lead rope out in front of you if necessary
-  Skilled horseman can get it done without shaking the lead rope but it’s better to shake the lead rope, then do not learn it at all, so just shake the darn lead rope if you must.

▪️ Now that you have some kind of method for stopping the horse and moving him out of your space,  Please teach a horse to stop when you stop, plus granting you a bubble of space. Imagine that if a child was leading your horse, and suddenly stopped in front of them that your horse would be polite enough to stand there and wait.

▪️ Be aware of your own space and don’t allow your horse to constantly move it. I can’t tell you how often I’ll be talking to someone and their horse inches into their space and they take a step out of the way…. Over and over and over. To the point that we have moved a good 20 feet in under two minutes and the human doesn’t even realize it. Have some awareness. If your horses encroaches on your space, kindly move them. Do not teach them that you will get out of their way, because this literally teaches the horse to run you over!

If all you master is these three things you’ll have enough foundation to get by.  It will be some thing solid you can build from.

I have 4 thoroughbred geldings who would love to be in lease homes….

All have Misc “injuries” that prevent them from being upper level or passing clean/clesr x-rayed PPEs that everyone wants nowadays.

These are horses that are SOUND, and want/need attention and a job. They are very bored sitting in the field and babysitting youngsters!

Long term care lease off farm, or half/full lease on farm available.

On farm lease will have a board rate applied.

Absolutely STUNNING 9 year old 16.3h gelding by Verrazano out of a kittens joy mare? who is just now retiring. He is a GIANT puppy dog that LOVES attention. He has cold set ankles

This guy has a VERY large presence, an incredibly outgoing, nosy personality, and likes to be involved in everything. He is so stinking sweet, loves to play and is very adventurous. he is aware of his surroundings and seeks to go check out what catches his eye. He has a gorgeous uphill build, is very sure footed and is naturally balanced in all 3 gaits.

He has NOT been restarted. I have jog videos and free movement videos.

He is not a horse that you’ll be able to throw out in a field and forget about, he will get bored, he has been running a while and has been super successful and is aging out. He loves interaction and affection, leaving and forgetting about him will probably not bode well for him. I absolutely can see someone immediately putting him into work.

This girl is a 16h (possibly 16.1)h dark bay mare with the classic “violence” chromed out look. She also has the classic violence movement which is effortless, classy, ands consistent. While she is sweet, she has that tiznow (dams sire) demeanor. HER MIS MATCHED HAIR SITUATION IS FROM A PRIOR CLIP JOB , CURRENT SHEDDING, NEW HEALTHY DARK BAY GROW OUT! she is NOT missing any hair, it is NOT fungus, it will be all normal dark bay color as soon as she Is done shedding out, yes she still needs some lbs, she was a rescue case and has had full workups done in the past few months.

I have quite a few mares I’m breeding this year/have bred already and now that she is almost 100% back to health from being in a tough situation, it’s time for her to make some phenomenal babies or find her new show career, She has no vices, can live outside in a herd, or in/out. She is sound and barefoot, i don’t believe she’s ever had “injuries” as she has clean legs and is 100% sound, but she has a slight head tilt that seems like it may have been there from birth.

She has been bred and successfully raised 2 warmblood foals.

With a pedigree like this, I feel it speaks for itself lol

16.2h - 7 year old mare by tale of ekati - warhorse with very clean legs! I have REALLY enjoyed watching this horse come into herself. I liked her when I picked her up from the track last year, shes been very go with the flow, and pleasant to have in the barn, the past few weeks I have REALLY seen her start carrying herself correctly, relaxed and move more fluidly.

She has always been a consistently pretty mover, toe flicking and big stride, but recently she’s had the head carriage a little more comfortable and really looking less “racehorse”. Some of these guys need that let down, and others don’t. This girl enjoyed it and is ready to FOR SURE find her new 🏡.

End the violence or “Vinny” is exactly everything I love about violence offspring. Not only are they all absolutely gorgeous, they are effortlessly athletic, and incredibly humble. Vinny is no exception. He aims to please, has such a huge outgoing personable personality and loves to be loved. He is about bombproof as they come, his spook is almost non existent, and he really listens and reads his rider the best he can. He is eager to please and understand what is asked of him. Under saddle he has very nice gaits that are changeable with just your seat, and he has a super soft mouth.

Vinny is massive, and by massive I mean huge bone, huge body, and he’s still a gawky teenager. I have his 6 year old brother who is just now done growing at 6:00.

He has only 3 races under his belt, and he didn’t do the greatest in them, size likely played a factor, and he just doesnt care about being in front, even in the field he is low/middle. He has been taken out in a cross county field to school over jumps….acts like he’s done it his whole life, his canter is the most perfect rythmic rocking horse canter that you would ride for hours and Is easily adjustable. He is currently in front shoes, and the farrier was absolutely in awe of him and said “I think he actually has the best feet I’ve seen in a long time, and honestly of any breed not just a thoroughbred”.

Vinny has 0 vices, is very go with the flow, could care less about farm animals ,feral children, complaining husbands, or lazy trainers who don’t want to walk out to the field and would rather hitch a ride in just a halter. (Hi, that’s me)
