Breeding both high quality and well tempered AKC (American Kennel Club) Registered East DDR German Line Shepherds, and AKC (American Kennel Club) Registered West German Line Shepherds.
History on the German Shepherd (Deutsche Schaferhunde):
The German Shepherd originated in Germany in the late 1890's and was originally bred to herd & guard livestock, and be a faithful family dog. Everything he did in his breeding's was to preserve characteristic traits of the dog. the dog was bred to be able to do its job affectively but also be able to turn it off and return home to be a loving family pet. Captain Max von Stephanitz wrote the standard for the breed in 1901. He also created a series of tests for the dog breed to determine if the dog was to continue in a breeding program. The tests consisted of : Their ability to oblige to commands, willingness to work & Protect, their courage, mental stability & temperament, and their ability to herd without fault. Today any German Shepherd bred in Europe or Germany must earn a certificate in herding or their Schutzhund I title, in order to be used in a breeding program. This large b***d, large breed dog was recognized for its intelligence, drive, and temperament. This led to the German Shepherds being known today for many different varieties of work. Which include but are not limited to: Police & Military, Protection, Detection, Service & Therapy, guide, Search & Rescue, and herding dogs. In World War II the breed was recognized for its ability to serve and protect. This is when the breed was categorized into 2 different lineage groups, East & West. The west German Shepherds were bred mainly for their appearance & calm temperaments, than they were for their work ethic. They have been recognized for being the most popular of the German Shepherd lines. The East German Shepherds were bred more aggressively for their work ethic, focusing on their temperament and drive to Protect, then they were for appearance, do to being used more for the ongoing war. Today the German Shepherd dog is separated into 5 distinct lineage groups.
1) American Show Lines
2) West German Show Lines
3) West German Working Lines
4) East German DDR Working Lines
5) Czech Working Lines
We are going to focus on the two breeds that we raise. East German DDR Working Line German Shepherds: DDR Stands for (Deutsche Demokratische Republik)
These dogs were bred specifically for working. They are extremely intelligent and loyal dogs with even temperament's. Used by both the police force and the military, these dogs have a strong work drive and their body is built for the work asked of them. They make idea working & protection dogs. They can make great family pets, if raised in a family environment and properly trained. They have a square formation with strong bones, large heads and broad shoulders. However, they are smaller than their West Line German cousins. East Line Shepherds are less susceptible to health problems and few get hip dysplasia. East Line German Shepherds are mainly darker in color and come in various shades of bi color, Sables ranging light to dark, and even black. West German Show Line German Shepherds:
These dogs were bred mainly for their physical appearance. Because they were bred for Shows these dogs follow standard guidelines in temperament i.e. friendly, Stable, calm, easy to train and easy to live with. If they are trained well, they will become more active and intelligent than American Show Line German Shepherds. They make ideal family pets. Not to be confused with the American Show Line Shepherds, The West German Show Lines are larger than the American lines and their coats are more luxurious. Unlike East lines, the west lines have more of a sculpted slope formation, which slants downwards from the head to the rump. The German Show lines do not have as mush of an extreme slope, as their American Lines cousins. West German Show Line Shepherds are more susceptible to health problems including server hip dysplasia. Do to this problem, all breeding dogs must be screened for health risks, to choose best possible outcome for future offspring and to better the breed. West German Show Lines are mainly Red & Black or Tan & Black in color, though they can come in various shades of sable, bi color & even solid colors such as white. They mainly come in lighter shades than their East Line cousins. Our German Shepherds
Our dogs are raised in our home amongst our family & friends which includes our children, other dogs (i.e. Shepherds and Corgis), cats and birds. we raise our animals in a family and in home environment. we take great pride in all of our animals, and in our breeding program. we strive to raise the healthiest puppies for families to enjoy and love for many years to come. All of our dogs have had all the necessary age appropriate health testing, including genetic health tests: Hips, Elbows, DM, VWD1, MDR1 & HU. Our puppies are also raised in a family environment in our home. Puppies are raised with children and other animals, household day to day noises, and daily handling. they will go home with 2 year health guarantees, AKC paperwork, Veterinary health certificate, first shots, biweekly deworming protocol, puppy care package (food, toys, blanket, etc.) and Life time Breeder Support!!
