just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for all the kind words and support. In animal control, there are definitely days full of big wins, but also days where you can just do your best and achieve the happiest outcome possible. There are way more good days than bad, especially in our wonderful city, though.
I’d like to take this opportunity, while I have a little spotlight on me, to let everyone know that there are many times we receive calls like this (maybe not dogs in walls, but in different precarious situations) and the dog doesn’t have amazing owners waiting with open arms. The hardest part of my job is bonding with a good dog and seeing it day in and day out at the shelter. Luckily for our city, Guntersville Animal Hospital couldn’t ask for a better staff. Anytime someone asks about them, I say the exact same thing: “It doesn’t matter if I bring in a clean, cuddly golden doodle, or an extremely aggressive cane corso, every one of them is treated like it’s a pet.” It’s been an absolute honor working alongside these ladies and Dr. Young.
If anyone knows anybody considering a new pet or maybe you yourself are, please swing by and give these guys a look, at the very least. I don’t want anybody feeling guilty for choosing to adopt from a reputable breeder either, though. Just don’t rule out adopting a dog that’s been dealt such a bad hand because we all know it’s not a single dog’s fault it’s not at home where it belongs, and being abandoned definitely doesn’t mean it’s a bad pet. Luckily, Guntersville Animal Hospital goes the extra step of working with several rescues, but seeing a dog leave these amazing people to go to a rescue is bittersweet. I’d much rather hear that they found a forever home.
One last thing. I’d like to ask the community for a little help. I think we are all aware that these are crazy times for one reason or another, but abandoning a pet is inexcusable. If anyone ever has any information on people abandoning pets or neglecting them in any way, reach out to us at Guntersville Animal Control. We want to hold these people accountable.
Thank you all!
