A little reminder about double-coated breeds!
Huskies are known for their beautiful, fluffy coats, but did you know that shaving a double-coated dog is generally not recommended?
While some owners choose to shave their dogs for aesthetic reasons or because they believe it will keep them cooler, there are several important reasons to preserve their natural coat:
🐾 Temperature regulation: A double coat helps insulate dogs against both cold and heat. The layers work together to help regulate their body temperature.
🐾 Sun protection: Their coat provides a natural barrier against the sun. Shaving can leave their skin more exposed to harmful UV rays and increase the risk of sunburn.
🐾 Skin protection: The coat helps protect against insect bites, scratches, and other environmental irritants.
🐾 Coat regrowth: Shaving can sometimes disrupt the normal regrowth cycle, resulting in uneven, patchy, or altered coat texture.
🐾 Natural insulation: That thick coat isn’t just for winter! It serves an important purpose throughout the year.
So, what can you do instead?
At Colt’s Coats, we offer both professional de-shedding treatments and tidy trims for double-coated breeds!
Our de-shedding treatments help remove loose undercoat and excess shedding, while tidy trims use careful sc******ng to neaten areas like the feet, furnishings, and outline.
This allows us to freshen up your dog’s appearance and maintain a healthy coat without unnecessarily removing the protective layers nature intended them to have.
Regular brushing, proper de-shedding, and routine coat maintenance are key to keeping your dog’s coat in its best condition.
At Colt’s Coats, we believe in working with your dog’s natural coat, not against it! ❤️
Healthy coats start with proper care!
