🌟Let's talk decompression🌟

Fanta came into a new environment and it showed right away.

Everything felt a little too big. The noise, the movement, the change in routine. He wasn’t ready to engage or take food from me, and that’s information, not something to push through.

So I didn’t ask anything of him. I gave him something familiar instead. A feeder ball he already knows how to use.

It lets him move, sniff, and problem solve without any pressure. He controls the pace. He can step in and out of it as he needs to.

After a few minutes you can see the shift. His body softens. His breathing slows. He starts choosing to stay engaged a little longer each time.

That’s decompression.

Not training in the traditional sense. Just giving the dog a way to settle so learning can happen later.

⭐ A big first for RootsDeep! ⭐

At just 6 months old, our homebred boy earned Best of Winners two days in a row for two Major Wins… and I couldn’t be more grateful.

My boy Rustee (Borderviews Give Me a Reason to Move) and my girl Ember (RLA It Must Be Heaven’s Light) produced this beautiful young dog, RootsDeep World of Pure Imagination, and watching him step into the ring with such confidence at such a young age is something truly special.

Moments like this aren’t just about ribbons. They represent thoughtful pairings, health testing, early puppy raising, training, and so much heart behind the scenes. Seeing a dog you bred show this kind of promise means more than I can put into words.

Thank you to the judges Mrs. Linda M. Riedel and Ms. Marie Anne Falconer for finding my boy in such beautiful lineups. I’m truly honored and deeply appreciative.

We’ll keep showing up, learning, and growing. 🐾

This is not distraction. This is regulation.

This dog isn’t being flooded.
They aren’t overwhelmed.
They aren’t shutting down.
They’re working.

Notice the pattern. Engage with the food.
Pause.
Check the environment.
Return to the task.
That pause is choice.
That return is confidence.

Flooding looks busy on the outside but flat on the inside.
Regulated dogs move in and out of engagement without losing themselves.

This is why we don’t rush exposure or force focus.

Dogs who are allowed to process their surroundings build real confidence, not tolerance.

Calm dogs aren’t ignoring the world.
They’re comfortable enough to notice it and keep going.

Quick puppy behavior note for anyone raising littles:

Two things I get asked about a lot with young puppies are happy peeing and rolling over during greetings.

Both are normal developmental behaviors, especially in soft, social, people oriented pups, and neither means something is wrong.

Happy peeing is emotional overflow combined with immature bladder control.

Rolling over during greetings is polite dog communication, not fear.

The key is how we respond.

Calm greetings, low pressure, and reinforcing confidence without overwhelming them.

I put together two simple, family friendly protocols that explain:
*why these behaviors happen
*why they are actually positive
*how to guide puppies toward calm, confident greetings

No pressure, no sales, no spam.

Annual eye exams are a non-negotiable in our breeding program.
Eyes can change over time, and yearly screenings help us make responsible, informed breeding decisions that prioritize long-term health—not just today, but generations ahead.

Training shows up when it matters 🐾

This weekend was a great reminder of why we do things the way we do.

Jenga earned Best of Opposite S*x for her first conformation point and passed her ATT (American Kennel Club Temperament Test) with ease. She approached every scenario calm, curious, and unfazed — exactly what we aim to build from the start.

Fanta came along as a young puppy and impressed us all day. New environments, new people, busy settings, he took everything in stride.

Lunch afterward was just another opportunity for him to practice real-world manners, and he handled it beautifully. Jenga played an important role too, modeling confidence and helping him navigate new experiences without pressure.

None of this is accidental.
Training isn’t loud or forceful here. It’s built in the quiet moments, soft redirects, clarity, freedom to explore, and space to think.

Confidence grows when dogs are allowed to engage with the world safely, not managed through it.

This is what foundations look like when they pay off.

These dogs are off-leash on the farm. They have choices; pigs to visit, chickens to inspect, scents to follow, squirrels to debate. I didn’t ask for a heel. I didn’t give a command. What you’re seeing is the result of positive reinforcement foundations: clarity, trust, and reinforcing the behaviors you want before distractions show up.
Foundations matter because they change how a dog thinks, not just how a dog moves. When the groundwork is solid, dogs can make good choices without being directed every second. This is how reliability is built without pressure and why freedom does not create chaos. Train the dog in front of you with intention and the behavior holds when it counts.

No commands. Just good choices. We train clarity, not control. Create a dog that chooses behavior without management.
